On the afternoon of April 24, after the end of the argument between the lawyers and the defendants, people with related rights and obligations in the case, defendant Tran Qui Thanh (71 years old) and her two daughters Tran Uyen Phuong (43 years old) ) and Tran Ngoc Bich (40 years old) had the last word.

Defendant Tran Qui Thanh expressed his hope for leniency and explained that he had worked with his family for decades, with the desire to contribute to society, create jobs for workers, do charity work, and had working 15 – 16 hours a day with the desire to build a strong corporation. Profits earned are reinvested and contributed to society. As for defendant Tran Ngoc Bich, he said: “The defendant is very regretful about his mistake. I hope the jury will consider and be lenient towards his father, sister and defendant to have more opportunities to overcome it.”

Previously, stating the opinion of impeachment and recommending a sentence, the representative of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Procuracy assessed that in this case, defendant Tran Qui Thanh was the person who directly worked, discussed with the borrower, brokered and then informed reported that her two children, Tran Uyen Phuong and Tran Ngoc Bich, should bear the main responsibility. However, the defendants were aware of their wrongdoing, committed their first crime, repented, were awarded many certificates of merit, and made many contributions to society… Since then, the representative of the Procuracy recommended that the jury sentence defendant Tran Qui Thanh to 9 – 10 years in prison, Tran Uyen Phuong to 5 – 6 years in prison, and recommended that defendant Tran Ngoc Bich be sentenced to 4 – 5 years in prison for the same crime of “abuse of trust and appropriation”. asset”.

Defending the defendants, the lawyers did not argue the charges, only asking the court to consider mitigating circumstances for their clients.

According to the indictment, defendant Tran Qui Thanh and his two daughters lent money to the four victims at an interest rate of 3%/month using a fake property transfer contract. When the borrower fully paid the principal and interest as agreed, defendant Thanh gave reasons for not returning the property. Using the above trick, from 2019 to 2020, father and son Tran Qui Thanh abused their trust and appropriated property, with a total value of more than 1,000 billion VND.

This morning (April 25), the jury will announce the verdict.
