Thematic exhibition “Dien Bien Phu – Immortal Spirit” opened on the morning of April 25 at the National Museum of History (Hanoi).

This is a meaningful activity on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 – May 7, 2024) and the signing of the Geneva Agreement (July 21, 1954 – July 21, 2024).

The display introduces to the public nearly 150 documents and artifacts according to two main content parts: “Dien Bien Phu – Historical rendezvous” and “Determined to fight, determined to win.”

The images, documents, and artifacts on display all demonstrate the spirit of “All for the front line, all for victory” of the Vietnamese army and people during the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.

Along with that are the examples of contributions, heroic sacrifices, and resilient fighting with the spirit of “Determined to fight, determined to win” of the heroes and soldiers on the Dien Bien Phu front.

The conclusion introduces the spirit of Dien Bien Phu through a number of promotional paintings on the occasion of the anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory; the gratitude of people across the country, the change of Dien Bien today.

Among them can be mentioned the scarf given to President Ho Chi Minh by French women in Geneva (Switzerland) in 1954; the General Military Commission’s summons to party members signed by General Vo Nguyen Giap in 1953; the phone used by the Dien Bien Phu Campaign Front Command to command the 1954 campaign; The handbook of Phu Tho town’s firemen recorded the activities of the rice convoy during the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1953-1954.

Along with that is the Dien Bien Phu Soldier badge that President Ho Chi Minh awarded to soldiers who fought and won at the Dien Bien Phu Campaign in 1954…

Attending the exhibition, Colonel Dinh Xuan Hoa, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Military History Museum, said that the National Museum of History has come up with a very professional solution to display many artifacts that many other museums do not. In particular, the display introduced the original artifact, which is the revolving award flag of President Ho Chi Minh given to units participating in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign. This is a very precious artifact, it can be considered the key artifact of this exhibition…


The exhibition introduces many images, artifacts, and precious documents kept at the Vietnam Military History Museum, the National Museum of History, and the State Department of Records and Archives.

Director of the National Museum of History Nguyen Van Doan clearly stated that the history of the Vietnamese nation in the 20th century marked the brilliant golden pages and miracles our people accomplished under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

One of those miracles is the Dien Bien Phu Victory in May 1954 – a symbol of the desire for peace, independence and freedom of the Vietnamese people. From here, Vietnam-Ho Chi Minh-Dien Bien Phu became a shining symbol of the resilient and indomitable spirit, intelligence, and creativity, becoming the belief and encouragement for the colonial peoples in the past. the struggle for independence and freedom.

With the determination to raise the flag “Determined to win, determined to win,” Dien Bien soldiers overcame all difficulties and hardships, fought tenaciously, courageously, cunningly, and creatively, together with the entire people and army. Dien Bien Phu victory forced the French colonialists to sign the Geneva Accords, ending the war in Indochina, opening a new golden page in Vietnamese national history, signaling the complete collapse of old colonialism in the world.
