Roofs collapsed and fields were devastated by a historic hailstorm in Hoa Binh

On the morning of April 25, the police force of Mai Chau district, Hoa Binh province joined forces with the people of Hang Kia and Pa Co communes to urgently overcome the consequences caused by hail in the area on the afternoon of April 24.

Previously, around 4-5 p.m. on April 24, in Hang Kia and Pa Co communes, Mai Chau district (Hoa Binh) bordering Son La province, a prolonged hailstorm occurred. This is the largest hailstorm ever in this highland district.

The large amount of hail that fell has covered many hills, fields, and villages of people. Hail causes damage to many crops, trees and many houses.

According to statistics from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control in Mai Chau district, damage caused by hail caused 8 people’s roofs to be damaged, hundreds of hectares of crops and hundreds of cattle and poultry… to die. Luckily there was no human damage.

Specifically, in the villages in Hang Kia and Pa Co communes, there are about 90 hectares of peach trees, 80 hectares of plum trees, 16 hectares of chayote, 18 hectares of corn, about 10,000 cabbage trees… crushed and completely damaged.

Regarding livestock farming, many pigs and hundreds of 100 chickens died. In addition, hail collapsed the corrugated iron roofs of many houses, damaged nearly 60 fibro cement panels and severely damaged 3 motorbikes.

Mai Chau district authorities and people are actively overcoming the consequences so that people’s lives can soon return to normal.

The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control of Mai Chau district is directing the People’s Committees of communes where hailstorms occur to continue to collect damage statistics to take timely remedial measures to ensure travel and early stabilization of daily life and production for people.
