Ms. Phuong said that her sister lives in a townhouse, near Thu Duc Wholesale Market, and there is no one around her who raises peacocks or farms raising peacocks.

“It’s possible that someone kept this peacock in captivity and then accidentally let it fly away. When he’s tired, he goes to my sister’s house to rest. After catching it, the family gave the peacock fruit to eat but it didn’t eat it. Later we found out it ate crickets and nuts” – Ms. Phuong said.

It is known that this type of bird has been raised industrially for many years in many provinces and cities, including Ho Chi Minh City.

According to an officer of the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department, the Indian peacock (scientific name is Pavo cristatus), belongs to Appendix III of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

This Indian peacock species is not a native animal of Vietnam but was introduced from abroad and belongs to Appendix III of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). All captive farmers must register with the authorities.

“In Ho Chi Minh City, there are also some people who keep this type of peacock in captivity for ornamental purposes and for breeding. This peacock was probably kept by someone in captivity and escaped outside” – an official of the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department said.
