Faced with this fever, many households in Ia Grai and Duc Co districts have quit their jobs to go to rubber and cashew gardens, and even to the forest to find cicada corpses to sell to traders.

Talk to the newspaper Dan Tri, Mr. TH (residing in Ia Grai district) said: Many months ago, traders in Duc Co district asked me and many others to find cicada carcasses to sell to them. The price of purchased cicada carcasses depends on the size, ranging from 800,000 VND to more than 1 million VND/kg. They will buy large tick carcasses in the deep forest for about 2 million VND/kg.

According to Mr. H., every afternoon traders will announce prices for him to buy from people. Last week, the price fluctuated around 1 million VND but in recent days the price has dropped rapidly to about 600,000 VND/kg.

“I also don’t know what they buy tick carcasses for. I heard it’s for medicine. If the purchasing is for good purposes, it will also be an additional source of income for people in the summer. At its peak, I bought ticks.” people about 15kg per day,” Mr. H. confided.

Mr. Phan Dinh Tham, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ia Grai district, said: “In recent days, I have also noticed many groups and social networking sites posting information about purchasing cicada carcasses at low prices. However, while people were picking cashews, they saw cicada corpses and took them back to sell to traders. This matter will be investigated.”

Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tu, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Duc Co district, informed that the authorities are verifying information that traders pay high prices to buy cicada carcasses. At the same time, this unit will coordinate with the government to propagate for people to carefully learn about purchasing and avoid speculation and collecting cicada carcasses to sell at high prices.

“I just saw websites and people asking each other to pick up cicada carcasses. I inquired and no one dared to accept buying cicada carcasses. Through research, no agency has confirmed that cicada carcasses are used as medicine. . The department is directing the facility to gather information about traders aggressively buying cicada carcasses,” Mr. Tu said.
