The Geneva Agreement affirms the bright spirit and diplomatic identity of Vietnam

The event has the theme “The 1954 Geneva Agreement – A great victory for the Vietnamese people on the path to protecting national independence and unifying territorial integrity”.

The celebration was held in person and online, connecting with the bridge points of all Vietnamese representative agencies abroad.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang expressed his immense gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh and previous generations of leaders, and to the merits of compatriots and soldiers across the country who heroically fought, sacrificed himself for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland; Generations of veteran revolutionaries participated in the negotiations and signing of the Geneva Accords, contributing to opening a new strategic period of the Vietnamese revolution, moving towards fulfilling the sacred goal of gaining national independence and unification. best in the country.

The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the Geneva Agreements have affirmed the bright spirit, bravery and diplomatic identity of Vietnam in the Ho Chi Minh era, strongly affirming the message of a Vietnam that loves peace and values ​​public works. reason and reason, have a strong will to protect independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and are ready to cooperate and cooperate with all countries and peoples in the world.

The Deputy Prime Minister also affirmed that Vietnam always remembers the pure solidarity and support and assistance of the people of Laos, Cambodia, socialist countries and peace-loving people in the world, including with the French people, dedicated to the just struggle for national liberation of the Vietnamese people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son affirmed that the Geneva Agreement on the cessation of hostilities in Vietnam signed 70 years ago opened a new page in the cause of the liberation struggle. nation, unifying the country of our people.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, after 70 years, the lessons from negotiating, signing and implementing the Geneva Agreement are still valuable for the work of building and developing the country and protecting the Fatherland today. .

Minister Bui Thanh Son emphasized that, facing the complexities of today’s world, the creative application of historical lessons has helped Vietnam properly handle foreign relations on the basis of steadfast principles. , flexible in strategy and behavior, upholding the spirit of peace, friendship, and perseverance in dialogue and cooperation.

Sharing their feelings at the ceremony, the ambassadors of Laos and Cambodia also expressed their honor to participate in the 70th Anniversary of the signing of the Geneva Agreement.

According to Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Khamphao Ernthavanh, the 1954 Geneva Agreement clearly demonstrated that the war path in terms of military and political diplomacy was wise, flexible, the spirit of sacrifice, internal solidarity and of the leaders of the Vietnam Labor Party (now the Communist Party of Vietnam) as well as the leaders of the Communist Parties of three countries.

According to the Ambassador, the lessons learned from the Geneva Conference and the experience of liberating Dien Bien Phu have become a bright torch to illuminate the path of revolution, combining military and diplomatic efforts in many campaigns against foreign invaders. and completely liberated the three Indochina countries in 1975.

Meanwhile, Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chea Kimtha affirmed that tireless efforts and noble sacrifices have created the achievement of the Geneva Agreement, which is an important step towards restoring peace in the region. .

The Ambassador said that although Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam have not achieved peace immediately after the Agreement, the three countries have stood side by side and helped each other in the cause of national unity and territorial integrity as well as in the fight against genocide in Cambodia, and today continue to support each other in bilateral and multilateral frameworks to promote recovery and socio-economic development in the spirit of good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term stability.
