Butterflies cover the sky in Cuc Phuong

--

At the end of April, flocks of wild butterflies appear in Cuc Phuong National Park, creating a poetic and picturesque scene.

April begins the dry season in the North, which is also the time when thousands of wild butterflies gather in Cuc Phuong National Park. Millions of white and yellow wings fly in flocks across the path leading to the garden, attracting tourists here in early summer.

The national park is located on the border of three provinces of Ninh Binh, Hoa Binh and Thanh Hoa, the main gate is in Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh.

Cuc Phuong National Park has more than 400 butterfly species such as phoenix butterflies, star butterflies, phalaenopsis butterflies, and chalk butterflies (pictured) with all colors and sizes, the most common are white and yellow butterflies. Butterfly season in Cuc Phuong lasts until the end of May.

Arriving at Cuc Phuong on April 22, Vu Tuan Anh (photo), 26 years old, Ninh Binh commented that the number of butterflies is not as high as in previous years, possibly because it is just the beginning of the season.

From the gate ticket purchase point, the male tourist rode a motorbike about 7 km to reach the area with many butterflies. The road is wide, easy to travel, suitable for both motorbikes and cars. At the butterfly viewing area, visitors are asked to walk.

Around 9:00 a.m., not many butterflies flew out of the National Park, but the air was cool and fresh. “Very suitable to avoid heat,” Tuan Anh said.

When the sun rises high in the forest, flocks of butterflies seem to wake up and fly out of the forest canopy. They park in flocks on the ground, fly around every corner on the road, surrounding people, creating a picturesque scene, Tuan Anh said. The number of butterflies appears more in the central area of the National Park.

Butterflies in Cuc Phuong are quite “approachable” so visitors can come into direct contact and take photos at close range. National park staff instructed Tuan Anh to pour some fresh water on the side of the road. When the butterflies gather and land to absorb the water, it will be easier to take photos.

To see butterflies in the National Park, visitors should choose to go on a sunny day when the number of butterflies is high and take better photos. The time to learn and watch butterflies during the day is enough.

However, visitors to Cuc Phuong National Park this season often combine many activities such as camping and exploring the rich flora and fauna in the Park.

Cuc Phuong National Park is located about 90 km from Hanoi, takes about 2 hours to travel by road. In addition to the entrance fee of 60,000 VND per person and parking ticket of 10,000 VND per car, visitors can rent equipment for picnics and camping in the garden for 200,000 VND – 300,000 VND.

The upcoming April 30 holiday may be the ideal time to go to Cuc Phuong to admire the butterflies lining the streets during the day and the “light show” of fireflies at night.
