It is expected that in the next few days, the Kien Giang Provincial Farmers’ Association will continue to connect to consume an additional 60 tons of sweet potatoes through the supermarket system and wholesale markets in the city. Ho Chi Minh.
From February 2024 until now, the price of sweet potatoes in the fields in Giong Rieng and Go Quao districts has dropped to only 2,000-3,300 VND/kg, farmers have lost 5-9 million VND/wage. During the same period in 2023, sweet potato prices reached 11,000-12,500 VND/kg.
According to the Farmers’ Association of Long Thanh commune, due to the difficult consumer market, sweet potato harvests were congested, causing many traders to give up their deposits – the price of 4,500 VND/kg – in advance.
Currently, Giong Rieng district still has about 120 tons of sweet potatoes of all kinds that have no output.
