Along with the Dien Bien Phu victory, which was “illustrious in five continents and shook the earth”, the signing of the Geneva Agreement successfully ended the resistance war against the French colonialists, opening up a new strategic aspect of the Vietnamese revolution. .

Speaking at the celebration, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son quoted President Ho Chi Minh’s assessment: “The Geneva Conference has ended. Our diplomacy has won a great victory.” If in the 1946 Preliminary Agreement, Vietnam was only recognized as a free country, then with the Geneva Agreement, Vietnam’s basic national rights are independence, sovereignty, unity and integrity. Speaking at the celebration, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang affirmed that, with the Geneva Agreement, for the first time in history, Vietnam’s basic national rights are independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. With the Geneva Agreement, it has created great inspiration and encouragement for the national liberation movement across five continents, for independence, freedom, peace, democracy, progress and social justice; and ushered in the collapse of old colonialism around the world.

Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chea Kimtha said that after signing the Geneva Agreement, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos did not have immediate peace but instead had to face unpredictable events. , as well as other persistent wars that broke out in the following years. However, the three countries have stood side by side and helped each other in the cause of national solidarity and national unification, as well as fighting against the brutal genocide in Cambodia.
