According to the assessment of the Southern Institute of Irrigation Science and the Tien Giang Hydrometeorological Station, salinity will increase slightly during the full moon tide in March (April 26 and 27, 2024), then salinity will continue to gradually decrease to at the river mouth and increases again during the high tide at the end of the third lunar month (May 9 and 10, 2024) but at a low level, salinity of 1 g/l is likely to penetrate from My Tho Cruise Port to the wharf. From the above assessment of saline intrusion, in order to solve the problem of water pollution inside the Nguyen Tan Thanh lock gate due to having to close the salinity barrier for a long time, Tien Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development proposed Irrigation Investment and Construction Management Board 10 operates and opens the Nguyen Tan Thanh lock from May 1, 2024.

In case the occurrence of saltwater intrusion increases abnormally according to the assessment, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will issue a document to adjust the opening time of Nguyen Tan Thanh lock to suit the situation of saltwater intrusion according to the law. reality.
