VNA – On April 25, the Historical Science Association of Son La province organized a scientific conference “Son La with the 1954 Dien Bien Phu Victory and some issues of promoting the value of historical relics in the province”, on the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory (May 7, 1954 – May 7, 2024).

The presentations at the conference comprehensively analyzed and deeply explained many aspects of the strategic Winter-Spring offensive of 1953 – 1954, as well as the contributions of Son La’s army and people to the Dien Bien Phu Victory. The presentations also evaluated the current situation and proposed solutions in promoting the value of some historical relics in the province.

During the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, Son La province had a very important position, being the direct rear of the front. Party committees, soldiers and people of all ethnic groups in Son La province joined compatriots and soldiers across the country to compete to contribute human and material resources to serve the campaign with the spirit of “All for the front line, all for the Electricity front.” Bien Phu”.

Mr. Nguyen Duy Luong, Standing Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Son La Provincial Party Committee, informed: Son La is the middle line of the front line of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign; is the gateway to the Northwest, with a vital road connecting the Northern Delta, Viet Bac war zone, Zone Three, Zone Four with Dien Bien Phu battlefield… so it shouldered a very important historical task. Therefore, the political task requirements serving the campaign set out for Son La province are very urgent, drastic, and focused such as the task of contributing to ensuring traffic on route 13 to Co Noi intersection and road 41 (now National Highway 6) from Suoi Rut to Pha Din Pass; protect forward depots, Ta Khoa ferry wharf, mobilize food and supplies; maintain security and order in the area…

“After 56 days and nights of extremely arduous, fierce and heroic fighting, on May 7, 1954, the Dien Bien Phu Campaign was completely victorious, ending our people’s resistance war against the French colonial invasion. Son La province has successfully completed the task of being the direct rearguard of the strategic decisive campaign, contributing to the Victory of “Dien Bien Phu, illustrious in five continents, shaking the earth”. As for food, Son La province contributed 3,607 tons of rice (exceeding the target of 52 tons), all kinds of meat over 144 tons (exceeding the target of 84 tons); vegetables of all kinds 140 tons. Along with that, the people of all ethnic groups in Son La excitedly participated in 21,687 civil servants and 2,434,000 working days contributing to the campaign to build roads and ensure transportation. Regarding means of transport, there are 83 boats and 872 pack horses; At the same time, together with the citizens of the provinces, we transported 4,450,000 tons of goods to the front,” emphasized the Standing Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Education Committee of the Son La Provincial Party Committee.

Chairman of the Historical Science Association of Son La province, Nguyen Vu Dien, said: At the end of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, the Party Committee, army and people of all ethnic groups in Son La province, as well as many units and individuals, received support from the Party and State. , the Government and the Northwest Region awarded noble awards.
