(TBTCO) – The Australian Embassy in Vietnam said this week, with the support of the Australian Government Trade and Investment Agency (Austrade), a delegation of Australian mineral equipment and technology services (METS) businesses came to Vietnam, attending the mining exhibition Mining Vietnam 2024, to promote green and sustainable mining cooperation.

At the Australia-Vietnam Green Economy Summit taking place in Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City recently, Ms. Rebecca Ball – Australian Trade and Investment Counselor, affirmed that Australia can provide more support to help Vietnam achieve its goal of developing more sustainable mining activities, through through upskilling the workforce, implementing ESG (environmental, social and governance) measures and applying Australian METS solutions. From there, reduce carbon emissions from mining activities, improve water resource management and explore opportunities to recycle mine waste into valuable construction materials.

The key Australian businesses participating in Mining Vietnam this year are partners with global experience in: underground communication equipment (Nautitech); geological mapping using remote sensing aerial technology (Xcalibur Smart Mapping); specialized mining equipment and technical services, mineral exploitation and processing technology (Blackstone Minerals, Mineral Technologies, Mincore). Along with that is the management of lubricants and liquids in industry (Quaker Houghton Australia); water management solutions, pumps, maintenance, consumables, mineral processing equipment (Weir); technology for processing minerals into metals and sustainable materials processing (Ekion).

Austrade said that in terms of mining investment in Vietnam, Australian enterprise – Blackstone Minerals is developing a project with a green model for nickel-copper-PGE Ta Khoa is located 160km west of Hanoi in Son La province. , including a modern nickel mine built to Australian standards.

The project is built according to an integrated model of upstream (Ta Khoa Nickel Mining Project) and downstream (Ta Khoa Deep Processing Plant Project), processing concentrates to produce precursor products for the industry. Lithium-ion battery industry is growing for the Asian market…

Another area of ​​cooperation between Australia and Vietnam is to improve the skills of local workers to meet the requirements of sustainable and responsible mining operations, including expertise in environmental management, community consultation and social responsibility to minimize the impact of operations.

Austrade also published a report on training capabilities with typical examples of equipping the workforce with expertise and skills to serve the needs of the green economic transformation taking place globally; covering the fields of renewable energy, sustainable mining, green hydrogen and bioenergy, transport, manufacturing and carbon management.

Last March, at the 2024 ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and Australia’s Ministry of Industry, Science and Natural Resources signed a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of a ministerial-level dialogue on energy. and minerals, will also create conditions to promote bilateral cooperation in the above fields.
