The case was heard on appeal in January 2024, the High People’s Court in Ho Chi Minh City rejected Nguyen Van Dong’s appeal, upholding the first instance verdict on the term prison sentence; Accepted the appeal of defendant Nguyen Le Khanh Duy to change from 1 year in prison to 1 year in prison but with a suspended sentence, probation period of 24 months.

As for Nguyen Duc Hieu, he was prosecuted in January 2021, but in May 2022, the Bien Hoa Central Institute of Forensic Psychiatry concluded that at the time of the crime, Mr. Hieu “had limited ability to perceive and control behavior.” At the end of May 2022, the People’s Procuracy of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province issued a decision to apply mandatory medical treatment for Mr. Hieu.

According to the indictment, in 2010, Mr. Nguyen Van Dong (born in 1956, residing in Vung Tau City) was paid compensation by the People’s Committee of Vung Tau City and granted a resettlement land plot with a total value of nearly 3.5 billion VND.

However, the authorities later discovered that Mr. Dong had fraudulently created and provided false documents and papers about the origin of the land, time and duration of residence in order to receive compensation for his use rights from the State. land and resettlement land.

Nguyen Duc Hieu is currently the Head of Professional Department 3 of the Provincial Inspectorate, and Nguyen Le Khanh Duy (expert) is assigned to inspect, verify, verify and advise the Provincial Chief Inspector to report and propose to the Chairman. The Provincial People’s Committee resolved the second complaint about recognition and compensation of land use rights value when recovering Nguyen Van Dong’s land.
