On April 25, Phu Quoc City Forest Ranger District, Kien Giang Province, said that the unit had just coordinated with the Police Investigation Agency of Phu Quoc City Police to catch 3 subjects red-handed cutting down forests.

At about 2:40 p.m. on April 23, while patrolling in Sub-zone 68, special-use forest ecological restoration subdivision in Bai Thom hamlet, the authorities discovered Huynh Phuoc Tien (34 years old) hired Nguyen Viet Phuong ( 40 years old) and Truong Minh Thuong (46 years old, living in the same An Giang province) were committing acts of forest destruction, so they were arrested.

At the scene, the authorities initially determined that the forest area being cut down was more than 2,085 square meters. The forest tree destroyed by the subjects was initially identified as a Melaleuca tree. The authorities made a record to confiscate 2 chainsaws, 1 excavator and some other tools.

Working with the authorities, Tien, Phuong and Thuong admitted to cutting down a forest area of ​​more than 2,085 square meters. Phu Quoc City Forest Ranger Department coordinated with the Phu Quoc City Police Investigation Agency to temporarily detain these 3 subjects to continue expanding the investigation and handle them according to regulations.

Previously, in the first 3 months of 2024, Phu Quoc authorities transferred the investigation agency to 2 cases of deforestation with criminal signs, with a deforested area of ​​more than 1.2 hectares.
