Over a cup of tea, officer Nguyen Xuan Tu shared: He was born into a family with a revolutionary tradition in the old Hung Xuan commune, now Xuan Lam commune. In 1968, following the sacred call of the Fatherland, when he was just 18 years old, he, along with many young people of his homeland, enthusiastically joined the army, bringing all the strength, intelligence and enthusiasm of youth. devoted to the revolution.

After joining the army, he was trained at C9 – D6 Military Region 4, working as a journalist and information officer. In September 1968, he was transferred to Cao Xa Regiment E284 Military Region 4, serving in combat in Laos, protecting traffic on Truong Son road. In December 1971, his regiment entered Binh Tri Thien and entered the Spring – Summer 72 campaign. During this campaign, he was bombed by a B52 plane and injured at Cao Diem 81 – Dong Ha. On March 19, 1972, he was officially admitted to the Party. From December 1973, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier Assistant Officer of the 2nd Army Corps stationed in Quang Tri. From November 1973 to December 1974, second lieutenant and deputy chief of C10-D7 E284 -F673.

In early 1975, veteran Nguyen Xuan Tu began participating in the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign, with the task of being the advance force to clear the way, opening the way for the Corps to enter. He directly worked with his comrades and teammates to grasp communication information, scout routes, build bridges, and ensure all routes were open.

Recalling fondly, Mr. Tu said: During those days, the enemy continuously dropped bombs to attack and block the way. Many heroic comrades sacrificed their lives. It is the sacrifice of teammates that fuels the will and gives strength to the brothers in the unit to overcome hardships and challenges.

Referring to this time, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tu’s eyes lit up with pride and memories. Officer Nguyen Xuan Tu recounted: On the night of April 29, 1975, our main force combined with the Saigon special forces. , The city’s self-defense fought hand-to-hand with puppet troops on all streets. At about 5:00 a.m. on April 30, 1975, when his unit passed through the city cemetery, they saw enemy guns and bullets thrown around as they fled. When approaching the Independence Palace, from the roof of a high-rise building, a number of enemies tried to open fire but were quickly destroyed by Self-Defense City. Although the unit’s artillery was attacking the aircraft at low altitude, when they encountered resistance from the puppet infantrymen, the brothers lowered their artillery barrels and opened fire, causing them to panic and flee. With the spirit of enthusiastic and tenacious soldiers, in every direction and street, our troops and vehicles continuously entered. And at that moment, the news of victory from the battlefield made the whole unit indescribably happy. The South was completely liberated after many years of waiting. The soldiers cheered, laughed, hugged and cried in bursts of happiness.

Looking at the bright eyes and generous voice, we understand that these are unforgettable memories of CCB Nguyen Xuan Tu whenever he recalls his arduous but very proud years.

Since the Ho Chi Minh campaign, officer Nguyen Xuan Tu also participated in the 1979 Cambodian Southwest Border campaign. At the end of 1979, his unit gathered to the North, stationed in Thai Dao (Lang Giang, Ha Bac). Here, in 1980, civil servant Nguyen Xuan Tu got married to Ms. Nguyen Thi Oanh, a teacher at Thai Dao Junior High School. In September 1982, he was awarded the rank of Superior, Deputy Commander of political battalion D7-E673. In October 1983, he was on sick leave.

After more than 15 years in the army, from the battlefield, in addition to the fierce but heroic memories of a period of fire and bullets in the historic Ho Chi Minh campaign, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tu now still keeps memorabilia such as photos taken. fading, the scarf, the canteen, the bullet casing, become evidence of history.

Putting aside the memories of a time of bombs and bullets, returning to his homeland, CCB Nguyen Xuan Tu still always promotes the qualities of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, leading by example in implementing the Party’s policies and guidelines and legal policies. of the State, and also actively participates in local social activities. Having served as Chairman of the Commune Civil Service Association for 19 consecutive years, no matter what position he holds, he always upholds the sense of responsibility to successfully complete all assigned tasks.
