1 hectare of commercial yellow catfish farming following VietGAP direction

This is a project chaired by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, with implementation period from January 2023 to March 2024.

According to a survey by the Project Steering Committee, a number of households in the province have raised yellow catfish but not centrally, spontaneously, fragmented and small.

The project’s steering committee has built a model of commercial yellow catfish farming following VietGAP direction in 3 households in Hung Long, Tan Quang (Ninh Giang) and Nhat Tan (Gia Loc) communes, with a total area of ​​2 hectares with 600,000 people. fingerling catfish. Before farming, households treat the water environment and pond bottom with Bio biological products, disinfect with Iodine… The project’s steering committee has guided farmers on technical processes to prevent fish diseases; Periodically add minerals to fish food to enhance resistance…

After 5 months of farming, yellow catfish in all ponds developed well, with a relatively uniform growth rate; Average fish weight is from 225.3-240.5g/fish, survival rate is 73-77%, productivity is from 49.3-55.5 tons/ha/crop; Average profit from 216-311 million VND/ha. The model of commercial yellow catfish farming following VietGAP direction gives higher profits from 86-161 million VND/ha compared to the model of raising some traditional types of fish. Xuyen Viet Seafood Production and Trading Cooperative (Gia Loc) has signed a contract to consume 70% of the commercial yellow catfish for households participating in the project at a price of 48,000-49,000 VND/kg.

After finishing the model, households continued to raise commercial yellow catfish following VietGAP direction and expanded to Thanh Mien and Tu Ky districts.
