More than 100 vehicles carrying Vietnamese goods were detained in China

More than 100 Vietnamese cars carrying goods were detained in China, due to drivers not properly performing their responsibilities in preserving goods or contract disputes.

On April 25, the Management Board of Lao Cai Economic Zone issued a warning about many Vietnamese vehicles being stored in China.

According to the Management Board of Lao Cai Economic Zone, recently many Vietnamese vehicles have been detained in Hekou (China).

Since the beginning of 2023 alone, there have been over 100 Vietnamese transport vehicles detained in China.

The main reason for being detained is that the driver did not properly comply with his responsibilities in preserving the goods, causing damage to the goods on the vehicle.

Because the two sides could not reach an agreement on compensation, these vehicles could not leave the country.

In addition, Vietnamese and Chinese businesses disputed the implementation of the contract, so the Chinese business kept the car and asked the driver or car owner to compensate in cash before returning the car to Vietnam.

The Management Board of Lao Cai Provincial Economic Zone said that it has coordinated with the Management Board of Ha Khau Border Gate – China to actively resolve and remove the above problem, but the above situation has not been completely resolved.

To avoid Vietnamese vehicles being detained in China, the Management Board of Lao Cai Provincial Economic Zone recommends that businesses involved in import and export at the border gate need to improve the legality and regularity in transactions. buying, selling, importing and exporting goods.

At the same time, transportation businesses, before accepting freight, request drivers to clarify the contents and terms of the contract with the Vietnamese shipper regarding the condition of goods, vehicles, etc. responsibilities of relevant parties when a dispute occurs on the Chinese side.

According to the Management Board of Lao Cai Economic Zone, from the beginning of the year until now, export of goods through border gates in Lao Cai reached 316 million USD, an increase of 45% over the same period in 2023.

Vietnam’s main export products are durian, dragon fruit, bananas, all kinds of peeled wood, dragon fruit, shoes, sulfur (in transit), yellow phosphorus… Of which, durian is exported. Export is stable with quantity increasing sharply over the same period in 2023.
