The second match of the 2024 U23 Asian Finals is about to pass. Three teams have now been identified to soon win tickets to the quarter-finals, including hosts Qatar, South Korea and Japan.
The remaining 5 tickets are determined after the remaining matches of the 2nd and 3rd matches end.
U23 Asia 2024 is the 6th time the tournament for players under 23 years old at the continental level has been held. Similar to previous times, there are 16 teams participating in the U23 Asian finals.
The 2024 U23 Asian Finals takes place in Qatar from April 15 to May 3. Teams are divided into 4 groups. Vietnam U23 team is in Group D. Opponents of U23 Vietnam including U23 Uzbekistan, U23 Kuwait and U23 Malaysia.
The three highest-ranked teams at the 2024 U23 Asian Finals will win direct spots to attend the 2024 Paris Olympics as representatives of Asia. Meanwhile, the 4th ranked team plays a play-off match with the 4th representative of the U23 African finals.
Saudi Arabia is the defending champion of the tournament after defeating Uzbekistan 2-0 in the 2022 final.
All matches at the 2024 U23 Asian Finals will be reported live on channels VTV5, VTV5 Southwest, VTV Can Tho and VTVgo application.
AFC said that, like the 2022 tournament, video assistant referee (VAR) technology will continue to be deployed in all 32 matches of the 2024 U23 Asian Finals. This technology helps assist referees in viewing Review videos from many different angles to make the most accurate decisions.
However, according to the regulations of FIFA and the International Football Rules Board (IFAB), VAR is only used in the case of a “clear error” or “serious missed situation” related to: Goals /no goal, penalty/no penalty, direct red card (not a second yellow card/second warning), misidentification of the violating player (in case the referee gives a warning/yellow card or disqualification).
