“In particular, the hail storm that occurred on the evening and night of April 24 in Van Ho district (Son La) and Hoa Binh area is one of the more intense phenomena than the average for many years,” Mr. Huong admitted. determined.

According to experts, the phenomena of thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hail are difficult to predict far away, but can be warned through tracking devices such as radar and satellite clouds. From there, the meteorological agency can warn people about 30-60 minutes in advance.

In the coming time, the above phenomena will continue because the North is still in the transition phase, while the Central Highlands and the South may switch to the rainy season in late May and early June. Over time, the risk appears more frequently and at a stronger level than average.

On the same day, in the specialized forecast bulletin on water resources, the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting said that water levels of rivers in the Northern region change slowly and are low.

In particular, the water level on the Thai Binh River in Pha Lai and on the Thao River in Phu Tho has dropped to the lowest level in history. Water resources on rivers and reservoirs in the North are commonly 30-60% short of average, with Thao and Lo rivers alone having a 50-60% shortfall.

In the Central region and Central Highlands, the water level on some rivers has also dropped below or equivalent to historical levels, concentrated in Quang Nam, Gia Lai, Kon Tum… The flow on rivers is 20-20% lower than the average. 40%, some rivers have a shortage of over 70% such as the Ba river in Cung Son, La Nga river in Ta Pao.

The meteorological agency warns that from May to July, the average temperature nationwide is still 1-2 degrees Celsius higher than the same period.

The drought in the northern Central Highlands continues until the first half of May, then is likely to gradually decrease, while the southern Central Highlands may end the drought from mid-May.

Meanwhile, in the northern provinces of the Central Central and South Central regions, drought continues to affect the months of May-July, then gradually decreases when the “main season” rainy season begins in September.

Experts warn that this summer in the North and Central regions is likely to record more and more intense heat than average, and many records of absolute highest temperatures may appear. Along with that is a high risk of thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hail.

According to a report from the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and hail occurred from the night of April 23 to April 24 in many places in the North and North Central regions. causes a lot of damage.

1,570 hectares of rice, crops and fruit trees and 47 hectares of forestry were affected and damaged. Thunderstorms also caused 67 electric poles to be broken, 17 people’s boats were damaged, and a medical station and an agency headquarters were affected.
