DTO – In the first months of 2024, with the attention of the Provincial People’s Committee and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (VH, Sports and Tourism), high performance sports of Dong Thap province continues to implement training and registration work. By April 2024, the Provincial High School for Gifted, Sports Training and Competition is focusing on training more than 450 athletes in 18 key sports. In particular, focus on investing in traditional strengths such as: shuttlecock, cycling, judo, petanque, sepak takraw, karate… At the same time, create conditions to promote the potential of subjects: swimming, shooting archery, chess, canoeing, vovinam, weightlifting, and athletics became the province’s key sports. With the goal of improving training quality, sports departments regularly implement training and professional training to contribute to improving the qualifications of athletes. The determination of the collective of coaches and athletes helps high-performance sports in Dong Thap province continue to promote the strengths of their forte at national sports tournaments.
Among them, shuttlecock contributes the most achievements to Dat Sen Hong sports. Accordingly, from March 22 – 28, 2024, Dong Thap shuttlecock athletes and 160 athletes from 11 provinces and cities compete in the 2024 National Individual Shuttlecock Championship in Thua Thien Hue province. With a spirit of determination in competition, Dong Thap football players excelled in overcoming strong units to achieve 4 gold medals, 2 silver medals, 3 bronze medals and ranked first in the entire group. In addition to the collective results, many athletes from Dong Thap achieved gold medals such as: Phuoc Sang, To Nguyen, Huu Loc, Bich Tram, Lan Anh also had the opportunity to be summoned to the Vietnam Shuttlecock Team to participate in the Soccer Championship. Asia Cup 2024, hosted by Vietnam next August.
Coach Nguyen Tuyet Cuong – Dong Thap shuttlecock department, said: “Currently, the shuttlecock department possesses a force that ensures high inheritance at 3 levels: recruitment, youth, and talent. Along with shuttlecock, judo fighters also showed high performance when competing at the National Judo Club Championship in 2024. The tournament is organized by the Department of Sports and Physical Training (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), Vietnam Federation Vietnam judo delegation coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Bac Ninh province to organize from March 27 to April 4, bringing together 28 Clubs of 22 provinces, cities and sectors across the country to compete for 23 sets of medals. In addition, the girl from My Tan commune, Cao Lanh city and her teammates: Thuy Duong – Kim Ngan – Ngoc Han – Minh Thu – Ngoc Nhung competed excellently in the women’s team fighting event to bring home their second gold medal. 2 for Dong Thap judo. Meanwhile, athlete Nguyen Thi Hong Gam also responded to the expectations of the Coaching Board when she surpassed her opponents to win the gold medal in the women’s individual fighting event, weight class 63kg. In addition to the 3 gold medals, Dong Thap judo won 2 more silver medals and 3 bronze medals, all in the men’s and women’s individual fighting events, thereby becoming the 2nd best performing unit of the tournament and exceeding the set target.. .
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, by March 2024, Dong Thap province sent 132 athletes to participate in 7 national sports tournaments, winning 47 medals, including 11 gold medals. In April 2024, the province’s strong sports, including petanque, cycling, and vovinam, are competing in national tournaments and promise to help Dong Thap province’s sports improve their achievements. To date, Dong Thap province has 52 athletes summoned to Vietnamese sports teams, reaching 130% of the target committed to the Provincial People’s Committee.
