The Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore has just informed that the Singapore Food Authority (SFA) has announced the recall of a number of food products originating from Vietnam.

These products contain eggs which are considered one of the ingredients that cause allergies to users but are not noted on the product label.

SFA said it detected eggs in the ingredients of Li Chuan seafood spring rolls (750g), Bibigo Mandu shrimp dim sum (350g) and Mini Mandu.

These products are currently being sold on the Singapore market but the labels do not clearly state that eggs are included in the product ingredients.

Currently, the two import companies are Li Chuan Food Products Pte. Ltd and CJ SE Asia Pte. Ltd. are having to recall all of the above products in the Singapore market.

This incident was announced on the SFA’s official website, accompanied by images and descriptions of the origin of the above products as being from Vietnam.

Eggs are considered to cause some adverse reactions in some people who are allergic to this food, adversely affecting the health of some sensitive consumers.

Under Singapore’s Food Regulations, food products containing any ingredients that may cause sensitization in consumers must be clearly marked on food packaging to protect consumers.

Mr. Cao Xuan Thang, Commercial Counselor, Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore, said that the product being recalled due to not providing enough information about the product could have a negative impact on consumers’ purchasing choices. Use Singapore, especially for products imported from recalled companies and suppliers in general (specifically, food products originating from Vietnam).

To ensure the reputation and image of businesses are built when exporting to the Singapore market, Vietnamese businesses need to pay attention to the labeling of packaged food products.

Importers and manufacturers of pre-packaged food products sold in Singapore must provide informative labels in English.

Specifically include the name or description of the food product; product composition: all ingredients and additives in pre-packaged foods must be declared; where the ingredient with the largest weight will be listed first and the ingredient with the smallest weight will be listed last.

Potentially sensitizing ingredients found in foods such as grains containing gluten (such as wheat, rye, barley, oats…); ingredients derived from crustaceans; eggs and egg products (lecithin); fish and fish products; milk and dairy products (Sodium caseinate); peanuts and peanut products; soybeans and soybean products; nuts and nut products (such as almonds, walnuts, cashews, fenugreek nuts, pistachios, macadamia nuts…); salt; Sodium bicarbonate; sulphite in concentrated form of 10mg/kg or more,…

In cases where the food product process has the potential to appear allergens, the manufacturer can use “may contain” labeling (may contain an allergen or “Produced in a facility that processes products that may contain (allergen).

In Singapore, food labeling is regulated by the SFA. The agency ensures food sold in Singapore is safe and protects consumers from potential health risks.

To better access the market, increase market share and create product brand reputation among consumers in Singapore, Vietnamese businesses should regularly update information and strictly comply with the host country’s regulations. ./.
