Singapore Management University opens representative office in Vietnam

HCM CITY – The Singapore Management University opened a representative office in HCM City on April 25.

The SMU Overseas Center HCM City (OCHCMC), as it is known, is the first representative office to be opened by a Singaporean university in Vietnam. It is in the Sonatus building in District 1.

It will work to cultivate networks and create opportunities for collaborations and partnerships between SMU and Vietnamese institutions, and connect businesses, academia and potential students with the various programs that SMU offers.

Vu Viet Anh, director of the office, said: “Through OCHCMC, SMU aims to facilitate the exchange of ideas, cultures and expertise, fostering an environment where innovation and learning know no boundaries.”

Lily Kong, president of the university, listed some major reasons for opening the representative office.

The first is that Vietnam is one of the world’s fastest growing economies, has a record of successful economic and market growth and a youthful and energetic workforce, she said.

Its efforts to fully digitize is in line with the university’s digital transformation strategy, and its National Green Growth Strategy in 2021-30 encouraging sustainable practices and the adoption of eco-technologies, also aligning closely with the university’s sustainable living priority and reflecting its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability, he added.

The Singaporean university has numerous strategic partnerships with Vietnamese universities and corporations, including close-knit ones with the Vietnam National University HCM City, Vin University and University of Economics HCM City.
