Coffee prices broke records due to market concerns about coffee supply from Vietnam.
Robusta coffee prices soared to a new record high due to concerns about the increasingly tight supply of Robusta from Vietnam along with information about crops being seriously damaged by drought.
According to the Vietnam Commodity Exchange (MXV), prolonged dry conditions in the Central Highlands region cause Vietnam’s 2024/2025 coffee crop to face a high risk of crop failure. Combined with the low amount of coffee in the current crop, it makes farmers decide to keep their goods. This contributes to the supply shortage becoming more serious.
Along with that, Vietnam’s coffee export activities have slowed down, reflecting the impact of the previous coffee hoarding by our country’s farmers. According to data from the General Department of Customs, coffee exports in the first 15 days of April 2024 decreased by 3.8% over the same period last year, to 80,781 tons.
Faced with concerns about global supply in general and in Vietnam in particular, domestic coffee prices are likely to reach a new historic level of 150,000 VND/kg.
