In particular, in the period 2023 – 2025, there are 08 units (2 communes, 6 wards), including: Phong Nam, Tien Loi, Duc Thang, Duc Nghia, Lac Dao, Binh Hung, Hung Long, Thanh Hai (Phan Thiet City). ).
The period 2026 – 2030 has 04 units (1 commune, 2 wards and 1 town), including: Binh Thanh (Tuy Phong district), Phu Trinh (Phan Thiet city), Phuoc Loc (La Gi town), Tan Minh (Ham Tan district).
In particular, in the period 2023 – 2025, Binh Thuan province will adjust its administrative boundaries to expand Phan Thiet.
The coastal city of Phan Thiet is currently 211 square kilometers wide, with nearly 260,000 people and 18 administrative units (14 wards and 4 communes).
In the next 2 years, Phan Thiet will receive nearly 94 square kilometers of area and more than 74,700 people from Ham Thuan Nam and Ham Thuan Bac districts. After arrangement, Phan Thiet will have 18 administrative units (13 wards, 5 communes), the ratio of the number of wards to the total number of affiliated administrative units will reach 72.22% (compared to the regulation of 65%); Natural area is about 305 km2, population size is about 334,000 people.
Specifically, a part of Ham Thuan Bac district (nearly 62 km2) will be merged into the city. Phan Thiet includes: the entire Phu Long town and Ham Thang commune, part of Ham Liem commune and Ham Hiep commune. In the South, the entire Ham My commune (more than 32 km2) of Ham Thuan Nam district was also merged into Phan Thiet.
Besides, a number of existing commune-level administrative units of the city. Phan Thiet was also rearranged according to urban standards; 03 wards south of Ca Ty river (Duc Thang, Duc Nghia, Lac Dao) will merge into 01 new ward. The existing Phong Nam commune will receive part of Ham Liem commune (11.8 km2) and part of Ham Hiep commune (7 km2) from Ham Thuan Bac district. Thanh Hai ward receives part of Ham Thang commune (3.4 km2) and part of Phu Hai ward (1.22 km2). Thus, Phu Hai ward will be retained, but a small portion of the area will be adjusted to Thanh Hai ward.
The remaining wards and communes basically kept their status quo, including: Tien Loi, Tien Thanh, Duc Long, Phu Tai, Phu Trinh, Xuan An, Phu Thuy, Phu Hai, Ham Tien, Mui Ne, Thien Nghiep.
It is expected that after completing the project, the People’s Committee of Binh Thuan province will submit it to the Provincial People’s Council for approval, before submitting it to the Ministry of Home Affairs for appraisal in June 2024.
According to the People’s Committee of Binh Thuan province, the policy of expanding Phan Thiet is implemented according to the direction of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at a meeting with key provincial officials in 2022.
