By the end of March 2024, the total amount of fly ash and slag discharged from the plant’s operations was over 6.4 million tons, consumed over 5.9 million tons, and the remaining amount collected at the slag dump was over 449 thousand tons. . Currently, the plant has two slag collection systems and a fly ash collection system. With these two systems, slag and fly ash are collected through the Ash Silo and Slag Silo systems, then transferred to the conveyor system to the slag disposal site. At the slag disposal site, before being discharged into trucks for consumption by waterway or road, slag and fly ash are run through machines mixed with 20% water to avoid generating dust during the processing process.
Slag and fly ash are also transferred through the flow regulating valve, through the falling pressure reducing valve to fall more gently, then flow down to the vehicle through a specialized pipeline system reducing 95% of generated dust. In addition, the factory also arranges many water spray pipes to reduce the amount of suspended dust during transportation. The amount of fly ash and slag that is not consumed will be moistened and transported to the slag yard 1.5 km away with a total area of over 74.5 hectares, annual design of over 2.2 million tons, slag yard capacity. about 12 million tons. Currently, the plant’s fly ash and slag are used in the field of leveling, as mineral additives for cement, and as concrete additives for irrigation and traffic works. In addition, fly ash and slag are also used to partially replace raw materials for the production of fired and unburnt bricks.
Recently, the amount of slag and fly ash that has been transported out for consumption in localities in the province has caused environmental pollution and damaged transport infrastructure. Furthermore, waste dumped in many places of Chi Linh city and Kinh Mon town does not meet the requirements of authorities such as yards, land, and inland ports. Kinh Mon Town People’s Committee requested the Company to add additional solutions to limit the dispersion of dust when ash and slag are transferred from trucks to collect slag. In addition, it is recommended that the Company prioritize the method of transporting and processing ash and slag consumption by waterway to minimize the distance transported by road, take measures to ensure traffic safety, minimize noise, dust and smoke when transported by road in residential areas. At the same time, it is recommended that the Factory and units contracted to transport and consume ash and slag strictly implement environmental protection measures and prohibit illegal dumping of ash and slag in the town. The factory needs to install a camera system to monitor the handling and consumption of ash and slag. These cameras must be connected to the town’s authorities to facilitate inspection and supervision.
