Exploiting information, the patient’s family said that the child was playing with a skewer and fell, causing the stick to pierce his tongue, causing injury. The family quickly took the child to the hospital for treatment.

When admitted to the hospital, the baby was still conscious, the skewer pierced his tongue and stuck into the floor of his mouth, causing bleeding. Immediately after receiving the child, doctors treated the patient to remove the foreign object and stop the bleeding from the wound; At the same time, examine to make sure that there are no fragments or splinters of the skewer left in the patient’s tongue area.

However, after returning home, the family needs to monitor the wound and clean the patient daily according to the doctor’s instructions.

According to Specialist Doctor 1 Pham The Hung – Head of the Department of Dentistry, Hospital A Thai Nguyen, said: “In this case, fortunately, the skewer did not penetrate the blood vessels and nerves in the tongue. Therefore, the baby does not bleed massively, and the tongue wound after healing does not affect the baby’s taste buds or ability to speak and pronounce.

Recently, the hospital has received many cases of children injured due to daily activities. The most common accidents include injuries due to falls, cutting and stabbing accidents due to sharp objects (knives, scissors, chopsticks, sticks…), and accidents due to burns and choking.

Through this case, the doctor advised that children being stabbed in the mouth by sharp objects such as chopsticks, toothpicks, sticks, pens, etc. and having to be hospitalized in the emergency room happens very often.

Children often get stuck in their mouths and throats with chopsticks and toothpicks while eating, especially when eating and playing, which is extremely dangerous. Therefore, parents need to pay careful attention when taking care of children, closely when children play, especially do not let children play while holding sharp objects to avoid unfortunate injuries that may occur.
