A large-scale deforestation case has just been discovered in Ia Pier commune, Chu Prong district, Gia Lai province. This deforested area is located adjacent to Ia JLoi commune, Ea Sup district, Dak Lak province. Here, dozens of hectares of forest have been flattened, leaving only thousands of felled large and small tree stumps lying scattered.

After being discovered, the subjects stopped all activities, carrying tools such as machetes and chainsaws and quickly left the scene. According to the reporter, a patch of forest with an area of about 10 hectares was shaved by the subjects for a long time without being detected. Among the thousands of tree stumps cut down, there were hundreds of large trees with stump diameters ranging from 30 to 40cm.

According to initial verification, the deforested area occurred in Lot 6 and Lot 10, Plot 10, Sub-zone 927 belonging to the forestry area managed by Ia Pier commune. This is the border area between Ia Pier commune, Chu Prong district, Gia Lai province and Ia JLoi commune, Ea Sup district, Dak Lak province. From the scene of the deforestation incident, it can be seen that the incident happened regularly and continuously for a long time but was not detected and handled promptly by the authorities.

This deforestation covers a fairly large area, with a large number of trees remaining. However, Chu Prong District Forest Ranger Department informed that the field area belongs to agricultural land and land with regenerated wood trees and mountains, all of which are outside the planning of 3 types of forests. Also according to information from this unit, most of the deforested area belongs to the administrative boundaries of Dak Lak province.

In Gia Lai, Chu Prong district has recently been the focus of deforestation cases. Only from the beginning of the year until now, this district has discovered 14 cases of forestry law violations, of which 2 cases have been prosecuted. Laxity and gaps in management by forest owners here have caused many forest areas to be seriously reduced.
