Recently, the trend of cyber attacks, especially data encryption attacks (ransomware), has increased sharply throughout the country and may become more complicated in the coming period. Functioning as a specialized agency in information technology, Thai Nguyen Department of Information and Communications has implemented many solutions to ensure the safety of shared information systems and information systems of state agencies above. province.

Specialists from the Department of Information and Communications implement solutions to ensure information system security against the risk of ransomware attacks.

Recently, the Department’s information technology specialists often work without days off to strengthen solutions to ensure information system security against the risk of ransomware attacks.

In ransomware attacks, hackers often choose to infiltrate servers containing important data and perform data encryption. Hackers can attack directly through the “vulnerability” of the server system or bypass the administrator’s computer, then take control of the system.

In addition, hackers can send emails with attached files containing malicious code to trick users into opening the system, activating the malicious code, and then logging into the system from a leaked, leaked, or weak password.

Once they have captured the administrator account, hackers will attack other servers in the network, finally running data encryption tools and asking the victim to send a ransom to receive the “key” (decryption key). code).

As one of the people who directly protect information systems, Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, specialist of the Information Technology Department (Department of Information and Communications), said: Understanding how hackers attack, we urgently We are committed to putting important systems under 24/7 network security monitoring to detect all intrusion cases early. Thereby eliminating the risk of intrusion into tracking systems to encrypt information.

Along with that, we also implement many preventive solutions to prevent hacker attacks on the principle of promoting prevention rather than prevention. In particular, we seriously back up data. Review and periodically check security for the entire information technology system and database and have a plan to prepare a response process when an incident occurs.

Mr. Dao Ngoc Tuat, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications, said: Implementing digital transformation, Thai Nguyen province has developed and rapidly increased information systems and the number and user data on information systems. . That increase also poses a greater risk of becoming a target for hackers, especially ransomware attacks.

Faced with that situation, the Department advised the Provincial People’s Committee to issue documents directing compliance with legal regulations and enhancing information system security in Thai Nguyen province. The Department also sent a warning document, requesting units to take specific steps to ensure information system security against the risk of ransomware attacks.

In addition, we also focus on raising cyber security awareness and increasing user vigilance in information systems.

With those efforts, up to now, information systems in the province are still ensuring safety. From the beginning of the year until now, the Department has detected 1,232,098 illegal queries and scans; Prevented targeted attacks over 2,000 times, prevented over 27,600 spam emails, blocked and processed 56 emails containing malicious code and viruses.

Up to this point, the Department of Information and Communications has coordinated with BKAV Joint Stock Company to deploy free centralized anti-malware software (AV) and solutions to detect and respond to incidents for workstations of state agencies. throughout the province.

The project is to implement 100% of the operating information systems with approved safety level documents in September and fully implement the system safety assurance plan according to the approved level proposal documents, slowly. especially in December this year.
