Many South Africans expressed their excitement when experiencing and enjoying Vietnam’s famous fried spring rolls and spring rolls at a cultural exchange event organized by the Vietnamese Embassy.

A little bit of lettuce, a little bit of shredded carrots, a little bit of sliced ​​pineapple, a little bit of mint, a little bit of shredded chicken, two pieces of steamed shrimp and a lot of cilantro, those are the ingredients that Ms. Paula Fernandes, who Portugal chooses its Vietnamese spring rolls with the spirit of “rolling everything you love.”

According to a reporter from the Vietnam News Agency in South Africa, excitedly showing off her neatly rolled spring rolls, Ms. Paula shared: “Vietnamese spring rolls are really good for your health. I put all the ingredients in here, lots of vegetables, especially coriander to enhance the flavor.”

Ms. Paula made and enjoyed her first spring rolls at a cultural exchange event between countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the international diplomatic corps in the capital Pretoria (South Africa). ) was held on April 25.

At this event, the Vietnamese Embassy in South Africa promoted two famous and familiar Vietnamese dishes: fried spring rolls and spring rolls.

Traditional Vietnamese dishes have received the love of many international diners. In particular, the guests directly prepared spring rolls under the guidance of “homegrown” chefs from the Vietnamese Embassy.

Guests are meticulously guided from dipping Vietnamese spring rolls to make them soft and easy to roll, choosing and processing vegetables, tubers, spices and shrimp, meat… to get a spring roll that not only Fresh and delicious but also very beautiful.

For many international friends, this was the first time they learned about Vietnamese spring rolls and were able to roll their own spring rolls with fresh ingredients and attractive colors.

Sharing her first experience of rolling spring rolls, Ms. Paula said: “When I first started making it, I thought about how Vietnamese people can put so many ingredients into one fragile rice paper. Fragile but the finished product is so beautiful and compact. By the time I actually started working and was guided by Vietnamese friends, I already knew how. It turns out I can make spring rolls easily, thank you very much for teaching me how to roll spring rolls.”

According to Ms. Paula, this first experience with Vietnamese cuisine has motivated her to travel to Vietnam in the near future.

Like Paula, Zoe Maphala, a South African, was surprised to see how Vietnamese girls “wrapped the whole world into a spring roll” at the above event.

Ms. Zoe said: “It turns out rolling spring rolls is not too difficult. And I really like Vietnamese spring rolls, really fresh and delicious. This dish is full of starch, vegetables, and meat to create balance. I really love Vietnamese food, Vietnamese culture and am happy to add a dish to the list that I will make a lot of in the future.”

Ms. Zoe added that she will look to buy Vietnamese rice paper rolls at supermarkets or stores in South Africa to roll her own.

Speaking at the above event, as Chairman of the ASEAN Committee in Pretoria, Vietnamese Ambassador to South Africa, Hoang Sy Cuong affirmed that this event is an opportunity for ASEAN countries to introduce the culture of Southeast countries. Asia comes closer to international friends in general and South Africa in particular./.
