The owner of the preschool class pushed his nephew down, sat on him and stuffed food into his mouth – Photo: Cut from video

And another 6 year old, forced into a corner, hit in the head for breaking a toy?

What is the cause of this violent behavior, not just at one institution, but many different educational institutions, over time?

These past few days, I’ve been shocked by the news about the owner of a preschool education facility abusing young children.

Thinking carefully, I see that it can only be due to ignorance in education. Ignorance because they do not know what the nature of their work is, leads to emotional behavior and a violent inertia from the previous past, maybe from the family, or school, so they see violence as a crime. Being aggressive with children is normal.

The first ignorance is not being able to separate personal emotions and professional work. Professional work has standards, professionalism, professional ethics, legal regulations… Personal emotions fluctuate depending on mood and external activation.

Because they cannot separate emotions and work, they handle work based on emotions. When angry, it could be for any reason, they are ready to take action to relieve their anger, or act on their emotional instincts at that time, regardless of professional standards or professional ethics. .

Because they cannot distinguish between personal emotions and general work, they often bring personal matters into work, leading to affecting the operations of the entire organization. In this case, the operation of the educational institution is suspended.

The second ignorance is due to not understanding the role of children in education. They believe that children are an object to be processed and molded directly according to their wishes, like a piece of paper or a ball of clay.

So in the name of education, especially when disguised with misconceptions such as “spare the rod and punish them”, they are willing to use violence to abuse young children, in order to achieve their “educational goals”. me.

This is wrong and is also a very common ignorance in the education sector, when students and children are considered educational objects, not educational subjects.

Because they are objects, they have to be manipulated, molded, and even suppressed, from parents and teachers, in the name of education. If they understood that children are the subject of education, they would not force a 5-year-old child on the floor, sit on his stomach, stuff tangerines into his mouth and force him to eat like we are seeing.

The third ignorance is ignorance due to not understanding the nature of the work of education. The nature of teachers, of schools, and therefore of education, is to support and develop people. For what? To create maturity for young children.

And on that journey, we must always remember and understand that children are the subjects of education. We are just people who support and create the best conditions and best support for children to develop and mature.

Because they do not understand the nature of education, instead of supporting and developing people, they torment people in the name of education.

This has been repeated countless times, in many places, at all levels, from family to school, under the pressure of personal emotions and cultural inertia.

It is these ignorances that are the cause of violence against children in families and schools as we have seen over time.

Therefore, it is time for educators themselves to be re-educated, to be less ignorant in what they do, so that this situation can be minimized.
