Mr. Son said, according to statistics from the General Department of Customs, in 2023, Vietnam will export 8.1 million tons of rice worth 4.67 billion USD, an increase of 14.4% in volume and an increase of 35% in volume. 3% in value compared to the same period in 2022. The structure of exported rice types is in the right direction, increasing the value of rice grains with types such as: fragrant rice, sticky rice, premium white rice…

Regarding the market, the Asian market continues to be the largest export market in 2023, reaching more than 6 million tons, accounting for 75% of total exports, an increase of 22.8% compared to 2022; Next is Africa and Europe. Rice exports continue to record growth in traditional markets such as the Philippines and China.

By the end of the first quarter of 2024, rice exports increased by 17.6% in volume, 45.5% in turnover and 23.6% in price compared to the first quarter of 2023, reaching over 2.18 million tons, equivalent to nearly 1.43 billion USD.

Vietnam’s rice exports in the first quarter continued to dominate key markets with large consumption demand for output. In particular, the Philippines is still Vietnam’s largest rice import market, accounting for 46.4% of the total volume and 45.5% of the country’s total rice export turnover, reaching over 1.01 million tons, equivalent to nearly 649 million USD.

Rice exports to Indonesia rank second in the market, accounting for over 20% of the country’s total rice export volume and turnover. Next, rice exports to the Malaysian market account for over 4% of the total volume and total turnover.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, exported rice output is mainly concentrated in the Mekong Delta provinces; Other regions mainly serve domestic consumption.

The total volume of rice goods for export in the Mekong Delta provinces in 2024 is estimated to reach about 7.6 million tons, of which, high quality rice group is about 3.2 million tons; Fragrant and specialty rice group reached 2.5 million tons; The average quality rice group reached 1.15 million tons; sticky rice group reached 0.75 million tons.

Regarding the balance of commodity rice for export in 2024, the total volume of commodity rice for export in the Mekong Delta provinces is estimated at about 7.6 million tons. Of which, the total amount of rice exported in the first 6 months of the year is estimated at 4.38 million tons; The amount of rice exported in the last 6 months of the year is estimated at 3.22 million tons.

To take advantage of market opportunities and promote long-term rice production and export in accordance with the Prime Minister’s instructions, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang emphasized the main tasks that need to be performed by ministries, branches, and agencies. Localities, the Vietnam Food Association and traders actively coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to ensure: Consumption of rice and commodity rice at prices beneficial to farmers; maintain minimum circulation reserve levels according to regulations; balance exports and domestic consumption, contributing to stabilizing domestic rice prices and facilitating trade, ensuring effective exports and improving competitiveness and value of Vietnamese rice products globally. world food market.
