Family and community awareness of drowning prevention is not high, especially in rural areas; Parents and caregivers lack initial first aid skills when children drown; Inadequate care and supervision of adults is also one of the reasons leading to increased drowning cases among children.

Another reason comes from the physiological characteristics of children who are often hyperactive, fun-loving, and like to invite each other to swim in beaches, rivers, ponds, and lakes, while they do not know how to swim and are physically weak. Be taught skills to ensure safety and handle situations when swimming. There is also a situation that must be mentioned: when there was a drowning person among the children and they saved each other, but because they did not have knowledge in emergency and first aid for the drowning person, it led to a situation of drowning. The number of children drowning increased.

To prevent drowning accidents and minimize damage from drowning incidents, Nam Dinh Provincial Police recommends:

– Families and schools need to teach children about the dangers of drowning, do not let children play around ponds, lakes, or deep holes to avoid falling or falling into holes; Do not bathe or swim in the sea, river, pond, etc. without being accompanied by an adult who knows how to swim and a safety float.

– Authorities need to arrange warning signs, prohibition signs and solutions to ensure safety such as making barriers, blocking entrances to areas prone to drowning such as rivers, ponds, lakes, pits. deep, waterfalls, places prone to dangerous slips and falls.

– Families and schools organize classes to teach children swimming skills, equipping them with the necessary knowledge to save themselves when they fall into the water.

– Parents (adults) need to equip themselves with initial first aid knowledge and skills such as: artificial respiration, chest compression, foreign body airway removal, etc. to be able to provide first aid to the patient. drowning.
