(BDO) On the morning of April 26, on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the liberation of the South and reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2024), International Labor Day (May 1), 134 years of President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday ( May 19, 1890 – May 19, 2024) and 70 years of Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7, 1954 – May 7, 2024), the Provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Duong province solemnly held a ceremony to visit Lieu Cemetery provincial soldiers and the memorial ceremony and burial of the remains of martyrs of Division 7 and affiliated units who sacrificed their lives in May 1968 in Choi Dung hamlet, Binh My commune, Bac Tan Uyen district.

Attending the ceremony were former Politburo member and former President Nguyen Minh Triet; Major General Doan Quang Hoa, Member of National Steering Committee 515, Chief of Office of National Steering Committee 515, Director of Policy Department of the Ministry of National Defense; Mr. Andrew Goledzinowski, Australian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam.

The eulogy clearly stated: Division 7, codenamed “Construction Site 7”, was established on June 13, 1966 in Phuoc Long (now Bu Gia Map district, Binh Phuoc province) and was one of the first major divisions in the country. Southern battlefield.

On the land of Binh Duong, the 7th Division has the task of standing firm in the area of ​​Phu Giao and Chau Thanh districts (now Bac Tan Uyen district and Tan Uyen city) to prepare in all aspects to enter the second phase of the attack. enemy. On April 28, 1968, the division was ordered to send its forces and local affiliated forces to deep areas to fight the enemy.

In the last days of May 1968, the 7th Division received orders from the Regional Command to attack So Ga Base, So Hoi, Dong Tram, North of Thu Dau Mot Town (now in Binh My commune, Bac Tan district Uyen). Right after we won the initial victory, the enemy used many armored tanks and aircraft to suddenly counterattack. Due to too strong enemy firepower and unexpected counterattack, a part of our officers and soldiers heroically sacrificed their lives.

The enemy’s crimes did not stop there. The enemy gathered all the bodies of martyrs and buried them collectively in bomb craters more than 5 meters deep, but after twenty years of searching, we have only now found the remains.

After 20 years, with 9 searches, on April 5, 2024, at the location of the 5th bomb crater, the search force of the Binh Duong Provincial Military Command dug up and discovered the remains of martyrs. Mass burial, and at the same time collected 20 skulls, many tubular bones, broken bones, 20 cardboard jars, 35 rubber sandals and many relics of martyrs.

Their bodies were brought from Choi Dung hamlet, Binh My commune, Bac Tan Uyen district to the Provincial Martyrs Cemetery on April 12, 2024, and kept at the Traditional House.

At the memorial ceremony, delegates, relatives and comrades of the martyrs saw them off to their resting place at the Provincial Martyrs Cemetery.
