On the morning of April 26, the Police Investigation Agency of Kien Giang Provincial Police issued a decision to prosecute the defendant and temporarily detain Duong Hong Hieu (born 1978, permanent resident of Vinh Lac ward, Rach Gia city, Kien Giang province). The crime of “Abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State, the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals” is prescribed in Clause 2, Article 331 of the Penal Code.

According to investigation records, from 2020 up to now, subject Duong Hong Hieu has used social network accounts to post many untrue, fabricated, slanderous, distorted, and insulting content to his honor and dignity. The product seriously affected the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Kien Giang province and many individual monks and dignitaries in the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Kien Giang province.

With the evidence collected, the Police Investigation Agency of Kien Giang Province decided to prosecute the defendant and temporarily detained Duong Hong Hieu. Previously, Duong Hong Hieu was invited to work many times by the authorities and made a commitment not to repeat the same behavior, but after that, Hieu still repeated the violation.

Currently, the case is being further investigated and documents consolidated to be handled according to the provisions of law.
