TKV proactively prevents natural disasters

From the lessons learned in 2023 on natural disaster prevention – search and rescue (PCTT-TKCN), Vietnam Coal and Mineral Industry Group (TKV) has soon built a prevention plan. Prevent and handle situations that may occur during this year’s stormy season, to ensure safety for production areas. The Group’s disaster prevention and control plans are implemented according to the motto “3 first, 4 on the spot”, strengthening inspection work and enhancing the responsibility of unit heads in this task.

Looking back at the past year 2023, a special new point in TKV’s disaster prevention and control work is that it has issued a Natural Disaster Response Plan according to risk level for units to use as a basis for formulating appropriate response plans. Thanks to that, all units have proactively followed up, built realistic incident simulation situations and implemented plans effectively in practice; contributing to significantly reducing damage caused by storms and natural disasters to production and people.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Director of Uong Bi Coal Company – TKV said: Last year, every quarter, the unit established an incident response plan in agreement with the Mine Emergency Center, including victims. Identify incidents such as: Mine fire, gas explosion, water explosion, furnace collapse, gas suffocation, gas release…; Agreement with units to ensure effective coordination between the Mine Emergency Center and units when incidents occur.

At the same time as proactively building plans that closely follow reality, TKV also directs investment units to build natural disaster prevention projects. In 2023 alone, the total value of these projects reached about 93.7 billion VND. In addition, the Group has also deployed planting trees, improving and restoring the environment combined with preventing erosion and washing away soil and rocks in areas that have ended exploitation and disposal of over 235 hectares (in the Quang Ninh region). is 220ha). The total cost of performing production work and combining natural disaster prevention and mitigation in 2023 will reach over 388 billion VND.

Implementing TKV’s direction, the volume of disaster prevention and control work in 2024 will not decrease compared to 2023. The Group’s motto is to proactively deploy disaster prevention work, take the department as the main task, and be ready to respond to emergencies. Accident situations may occur.

For underground mining and underground mine construction enterprises, TKV will strengthen the review and inspection of the terrain surface above the mining and excavation areas of the enterprises, especially in areas dry streams, low-lying areas; Check pumping station tunnels, calculate additional pumping, ensure water drainage in heavy rain conditions, improve water pumping capacity and water storage tanks of mines; Check and strengthen the furnace doors to prevent the risk of flooding due to heavy rain.

For open-pit mining enterprises, TKV will continue to review and adjust issues related to mining and drainage techniques to suit the situation of climate change and heavy rain; Carry out layered waste disposal according to the correct limits, direction, sequence and disposal techniques. Logistics, port management, and water transportation businesses are currently organizing to reinforce and support loading and unloading equipment, ensuring safety during storms and tornadoes; Arrange adequate anchoring facilities and implement safety solutions for ships and boats.

According to the report of the Environmental Department of TKV, in the first quarter of 2024, units in TKV have basically completed implementing solutions to level low-lying areas and water accumulation holes that cause water to seep directly into the pits of the facilities. underground coal mining unit; strengthen the embankment and dam system; Digging, excavating, and dredging a system of sedimentation pits and surface drainage ditches at the fields; Organize repair and maintenance of pumps, generators, drainage pump lines… Most units are proactive in coordination, agreement/coordination plan, mobilization of disaster prevention forces with the government local authorities (district and commune levels) and surrounding units. Some units such as: Cao Son Coal, Hon Gai Coal, Ha Lam Coal, Mong Duong Coal… have organized military drills in simulated incidents caused by natural disasters, storms, and combat maps. command disaster prevention and control before April 2024.

Forecasting extreme weather patterns and unpredictable developments in 2024, Mr. Vu Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of the Group, has soon directed units to pay special attention to prevention, identification of risks and take timely measures, proactively implement disaster prevention and control according to the motto “3 first, 4 on the spot” and “early, from afar, from the grassroots”. To ensure maximum safety for production and people during this year’s stormy season, Group leaders will strengthen unexpected inspections of the implementation of disaster prevention and control tasks at units; The focus is on checking the terrain surface at the fields; In addition to the site and topography of the mine surface, surface water areas have the risk of affecting ground and underground works; Industrial premises, factories, architectural objects…
