On April 26, under authorization, Mr. Nguyen Van Danh – Secretary of the Tien Giang Provincial Party Committee, head of the National Assembly Delegation of Tien Giang province – handed over the resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee to establish Go Cong city. for the Party Committee, government and people of Go Cong town. This is the second city in Tien Giang province.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh – Chairman of Tien Giang Provincial People’s Committee, Go Cong is a land with long-standing cultural and historical value. Through many stages of formation and development, Go Cong town was officially established in 1987, directly under Tien Giang province.
Since the establishment of Go Cong town, Tien Giang province has always determined that this is the urban economic center of the eastern region of the province, so it has always paid attention to and created conditions for Go Cong to grow and develop. Up to now, Go Cong has met all conditions to become the second city of Tien Giang province.
Previously, at the 31st session, the National Assembly Standing Committee passed a Resolution on the arrangement and establishment of wards in Go Cong town and the establishment of Go Cong city, Tien Giang province.
After restructuring, Go Cong city has 10 commune-level administrative units, including 7 wards: 1, 2, 5, Long Chanh, Long Hoa, Long Hung, Long Thuan and 3 communes: Binh Dong, Binh Xuan, Tan Trung (reduction of 2 commune-level administrative units compared to the current Go Cong town). The urbanization rate of Go Cong city is 60.76%.
Go Cong city was established on the basis of the entire natural area of 101.69 km2 and population of 151,937 people of Go Cong town in Tien Giang province.
According to Chairman of Go Cong Town People’s Committee Gian Ba Huynh, to be worthy of the city, based on planning, in the coming time, Go Cong city will invite investors to invest in residential areas and urban areas. to expand urban space; The key focus is on services and trade integrated with cultural festivals to promote and stimulate tourism in the area towards a more civilized and modern city.
