YenBaiDeveloping handicraft industries is an effective direction, helping to promote the process of economic restructuring and changing the face of rural areas. Many traditional craft villages in Yen Bai province are maintained and developed, creating jobs and increasing income for people.

In 2012, the commune was recognized by the Provincial People’s Committee as the first rural craft village of Yen Bai city with vermicelli production. This craft village currently has 68 households producing and trading vermicelli and each year provides the market with about 400 – 450 tons of products, bringing in nearly 30 billion VND in revenue, contributing to creating local jobs and stable income. decided for hundreds of local workers. Thanks to vermicelli production, many families have escaped poverty and have a stable income of 4 – 5 million VND/household/month; Many families have become well-off with an income of 50 – 70 million VND/year.

Currently, Phuc An commune, Yen Binh district has many households weaving shrimp baskets. Dong Tam village alone has 72/86 households doing this profession. People mainly rely on shrimp basket production and consider this as their main source of income. With an average of 30 – 50 baskets per household per day, by 2023, basket weaving output will reach 1,400,000 pieces, generating a revenue of over 5.3 billion VND, accounting for 57% of the total revenue of Dong Tam village. On July 18, 2017, the Provincial People’s Committee issued Decision No. 1321/QD-UBND recognizing the shrimp basket weaving craft village of Dong Tam village, Phuc An commune.

Recently, shrimp basket products from craft villages have been consumed in many neighboring provinces and cities; Product prices increase, income is stable, people are more active in production; The main consumer markets are Yen Bai, Son La, Lai Chau, Hoa Binh, Tuyen Quang…

Yen Bai currently has 252 craft villages and vocational villages; Of which, 15 craft villages are recognized, focusing on 4 areas including: processing and preserving agricultural, forestry and fishery products; production of handicrafts; Handling and processing raw materials to serve rural production; production of wooden furniture, rattan, bamboo, ceramics, textiles, and mechanical engineering. Craft villages are concentrated mainly in the districts of Luc Yen, Mu Cang Chai, Van Chan and Tran Yen.

In 2023, total revenue from production and business activities in recognized craft villages will reach nearly 109 billion VND.

Besides positive results, the development of the rural handicraft industry still has shortcomings and limitations, such as: the products made by craft villages still depend on the consumer market; lack of stability; Most of them are untrained workers; The number of highly skilled workers is very small; Most craft village establishments are located interspersed in residential areas, without separate planning; Production scale is mainly households; The product has a simple design, not many products have created a big brand, and it is difficult to compete with similar products on the market…

Facing the increasing demands of the market, SSI establishments that want to develop sustainably need to continue to promote the application of science and technology, restructure production, and focus on investing in developing suitable traditional products. suit the needs and tastes of customers.

At the same time, creating new products that meet needs and incorporating cultural values into products; ensure synchronous development. Functional sectors need to increase support for craft villages, cooperative groups, and business establishments to build brands and own industrial designs. At the same time, create conditions for establishments to access opportunities to develop the digital economy, e-commerce, improve productivity, quality, competitiveness and effectively implement the economic integration roadmap. ..

It can be seen that traditional craft villages, craft villages and traditional crafts have contributed significantly to the economic development process in localities in the province, helping people have income and stability. Craft villages are attracting many workers, promoting sustainable traditional values, and bringing economic efficiency to the people.
