On April 26, the Police Investigation Agency of Kien Giang Provincial Police prosecuted the defendant and temporarily detained Duong Hong Hieu (46 years old, residing in Vinh Lac ward, Rach Gia city) for “abusing rights”. democratic freedom violates the interests of the state, the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals” according to Article 331 of the Penal Code.

According to the police, from 2020 until now, subject Duong Hong Hieu has used social network accounts named: “Duong Hong Hieu”, “Duong Hieu”, and “Phu Dung to accuse himself” to post many content. Content that is untrue, fabricated, slandered, distorted, and insulted honor and dignity seriously affected the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Kien Giang province and many individual monks and dignitaries in Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Kien Giang province.

With the evidence collected, the Police Investigation Agency decided to prosecute and temporarily detain Duong Hong Hieu.

Previously, Hieu was invited to work many times by the authorities and made a commitment not to repeat the same behavior, but after that Hieu still disregarded the law and repeated the violation.

The case is being investigated and clarified.
