The 2nd international culinary contest with the theme “Medicinal Cuisine – the quintessence of Ngoc Linh mountains and forests” and announced the establishment of a Vietnamese record of 120 dishes made from ginseng organized by the People’s Committee of Tu Mo Rong district. The event is taking place in Kon Tum province.

The contest had 21 participating teams, of which 11 teams belonged to 11 communes and cooperatives in the area; 7 teams are guests from provinces and cities across the country. In particular, there are 3 teams from Laos, China and Switzerland.

The competition is divided into 2 tables, including one table for 11 communes in the district and the other table for international guest teams and provinces throughout the country.

Each team has the participation of a maximum of 3 chefs and demonstrates their talent in preparing at least 6 main dishes with ingredients from the medicinal plant Tu Mo Rong ginseng and recommended dishes with their local flavors. These main dishes are designated by the Organizing Committee and are not allowed to overlap.

Grading the teams’ dishes is a jury consisting of experts and famous chefs from the Center for Research, Conservation and Development of Vietnamese Cuisine; Saigon Professional Chefs Association; Famous young Vietnamese chef; chefs from Taiwan and France.

The jury will score based on the enjoyment of the dish and the team’s presentation and presentation ability. The organizing committee will award a total of 20 prizes to 20 competing teams.

Chairman of Tu Mo Rong District People’s Committee Vo Trung Manh said that this is the second time the district has organized a medicinal culinary contest. However, this competition is different from before because it is international in scope with the participation of good chefs from many countries.

“The establishment of a Vietnamese record of 120 dishes made from ginseng has affirmed the value, quality, and appeal of Tu Mo Rong ginseng compared to ginseng grown in other regions and localities” – Chairman Tu Mo Rong District People’s Committee said.

Also in this series of activities, Tu Mo Rong district also organizes a school youth gong festival; Art Exhibition Competition “Light up dreams – Breathe life into stone” for teachers and students; Traditional rice pounding contest of the Xo Dang ethnic group in Tu Mo Rong district in 2024; The Tu Mo Rong district tourism introduction contest was broadcast live on social networks.

This is a series of activities to celebrate the 49th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national unification; 65 years of Establishment of Kon Tum Provincial Party Committee Base Area; 20 years since the establishment of Tu Mo Rong district.

Through these activities, the district hopes to elevate and honor the medicinal plant ginseng, preserve culture, and create more livelihoods for the Xo Dang people.
