According to the “Task of implementing the overall plan for arranging district and commune administrative units for the period 2023-2025, adjusting administrative boundaries to expand Phan Thiet City” of Binh Thuan Provincial People’s Committee, it is expected to be implemented. Currently, the administrative boundaries are arranged to create 12 administrative units, including 30 communes, 08 wards and 01 town.

In the period 2023-2025, it is expected that 08 units (including 2 communes and 6 wards) will be arranged, including: Phong Nam, Tien Loi, Duc Thang, Duc Nghia, Lac Dao, Binh Hung, Hung Long , and Thanh Hai (these units belong to Phan Thiet City).

In the period 2026-2030, it is expected to arrange 04 units (including 1 commune, 2 wards and 1 town), including: Binh Thanh (in Tuy Phong district), Phu Trinh (in Phan city). Thiet), Phuoc Loc (La Gi town), and Tan Minh (ham Tan district).

During this process, City. Phan Thiet is expected to receive about 94 square kilometers of area and more than 74,700 people from Ham Thuan Nam and Ham Thuan Bac districts. After completing the arrangement process, City. Phan Thiet is expected to have a total of 18 administrative units (including 13 wards and 5 communes), with a natural area of ​​about 305 km2 and a population of about 334,000 people.

Notable adjustments include the merger of part of Ham Thuan Bac and Ham Thuan Nam districts into the city. Phan Thiet, as well as the restructuring of a number of commune and ward level administrative units in the city. It is expected that this project will be submitted to the Provincial People’s Council for approval by the People’s Committee of Binh Thuan province before being appraised by the Ministry of Home Affairs in June 2024. Phan Thiet’s expansion policy is implemented according to the instructions of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at a meeting with key officials of the province in 2022, to ensure sustainable development and access to service facilities for resident.
