In 1966, to implement the “search and destroy” and “pacification” plan to save the situation due to the failure of the “Special War” strategy, the US imperialists quickly occupied key positions with strategic significance to serve as a springboard and build those areas into large military bases.

At the same time, using a large volume of bombs and bullets to violently attack our liberated areas around their bases, combined with the puppet army to launch sweeping operations and herd people to establish a security belt. entire system of US military bases in South Vietnam.

At that time, in the Binh Duc area of ​​Chau Thanh district, My Tho province, the US chose a large military base – “Dong Tam Base”, in 4 communes: Binh Duc, Thanh Phu, Song Thuan and Long Hung. This is an area with ideal terrain for the US and puppet troops to use modern means of warfare, with great control in stationing, landing, moving troops, conducting sweeps, and controlling troops. We broke in from the outside. The US 9th Division and the puppet 7th Division searched, sniffed, arrested, and controlled our troops and people, proclaiming that “The Americans will not allow a blade of grass to grow in this land.”

To crush those plots, in July 1966, the My Tho Provincial Party Committee directed the establishment of the “Belt to destroy America” ​​- “Binh Duc Belt”. The Belt Command under the direction of the Regional Party Committee of Zone 8, Military Region 8, directly the Provincial Party Committee, My Tho Provincial Army has conducted training sessions for officials and people to properly understand the previous conspiracy. the eye and the eye of the American puppet; Make plans to prepare and deploy military forces and soldiers in various forms of struggle, mainly political struggle, political struggle combined with armed struggle, use appropriate methods to hold on, “attack the enemy in the enemy’s immediate area” to control the enemy’s area of ​​operation.

With courage, enduring all the fierceness, loss, and sacrifice of our army and people in the “Binh Duc Belt”, the local army and people did not waver, still clinging to their position “one inch without moving, one without leaving” – a new, unique method of fighting the enemy that demonstrates the ideology of mastery and attack in the local people’s war.

In the communes in the belt area, when a war breaks out, there is the support of the entire people, regardless of old or young, male or female, all united to stand up to protect every inch of their homeland. And there, there were many people who became heroes who destroyed America.

After nearly 3 years (1966 – 1969) fighting the US and decisively defeating the US, the army and people of the belt achieved glorious victories, eliminating from combat more than 7,000 US troops, more than 2,500 puppets, and shooting down more than 100 machines. Flying and sinking a series of ships of all types, destroying more than 50 posts, 2 brigades of the US 9th Division had to be replaced 3 times.

It can be seen that, with the formation and development of the “American Destruction Belt”, wherever American troops go, wherever they are stationed, they will be attacked, consumed, and destroyed by our Armed Forces. The “American Kill Belt” became a great pressure and a terror for the US military during the war in Vietnam, contributing to the bankruptcy of the US imperialism’s “Local War” strategy, creating a step forward. new development for the army and people of My Tho province to successfully carry out the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign on April 30, 1975.

After efforts and efforts, the Party Committee, government and people of Binh Duc commune gradually built and perfected the criteria for new rural communes (NTM) to achieve quality and progress.

Although it is the last commune to meet Chau Thanh district’s NTM standards in December 2023, it has contributed to completing the criteria for building a NTM district, improving the material and spiritual life of local people.

In the first quarter of 2024, the socio-economic situation continues to develop stably. Accordingly, agricultural production activities continue to be promoted. The commune promotes the application of scientific and technical advances in farming and animal husbandry through agricultural extension programs and seminars, especially gradually improving plant and animal varieties.

Thanks to the good implementation of the motto “People know, people discuss, people do, people check and people benefit” in implementing the “Smart Public Mobilization” model, through social security activities and infrastructure construction. rural areas, environmental protection…, all levels of Associations and commune unions actively mobilize people to participate in implementation, ensuring harmony and stability in people’s lives.

In addition, the Party Committee and commune authorities have done well in improving the quality of cultural titles such as: Cultural hamlets, cultural worship facilities, cultural agencies, cultural roads, and communes meeting standards. new rural culture. To date, the commune has 1,950/2,078 households achieving Cultural Family status, 5 worship facilities have been re-recognized as Cultural Titles, 3/3 hamlets have achieved the title of Cultural Hamlets…
