Enjoy tea at Go Quan market

--

(Quang Ngai Newspaper) – Since the 90s of the twentieth century, at Go Quan market (Quang Ngai city) there have been famous delicious mixed tea stalls with cheap prices, so they are called “no sweet soup market”.

Go Quan Market, in Chanh Lo Ward (Quang Ngai City), sells all kinds of items, from vegetables and fruits to fish and meat and has a variety of food stalls. Since the 90s of the last century, people took the name of a rustic dish sold at the market, sweet soup, and then added the word “no” to the market’s name. “In the past, Go Quan market was small and shabby, not as spacious as it is now. The market had 3 tea stalls specializing in selling traditional Quang sweet soups: mixed sweet soup, black bean sweet soup, and green bean sweet soup. Every meal , every stall has very large pots of sweet soup, but it’s all sold out in no time. The sweet soup is very cheap. After eating a cup of sweet soup, the name “No sweet soup” comes from “People said it so often that it became familiar, then slowly it became the second name of Go Quan market,” said Nguyen Thi Dung (85 years old), living near Go Quan market.

Ms. Tuyet’s tea stall is in the west corner of Go Quan market (Quang Ngai city).

Hearing that the sweet soup at Go Quan market is delicious and cheap, people from all over often come here to enjoy sweet soup. It used to be a familiar address for sweet soup lovers, but later, when more and more shops opened, the sweet soup stalls at the market gradually became less crowded. Many people no longer make a living selling tea. Coming to the “full sweet soup market” now, there is only one person left who is still engrossed in the pots of sweet bean, black bean, and mixed sweet soup, Mrs. Tuyet. Ms. Tuyet’s nearly 30-year-old tea stall in the west corner of the market still quietly brings memories to many people who are passionate about traditional Quang sweet soup.

When mentioning the place “full tea market”, Ms. Tuyet said that prices are increasingly escalating, so to continue selling “full tea”, it will be difficult to balance the quantity of tea with the price. So now I sell just enough to eat at a very reasonable price.

A cup of mixed sweet soup with all kinds of beans such as green beans, black beans, delicious royal beans and rich coconut milk… is sold by Mrs. Tuyet for 6 thousand VND. This is an affordable price, compared to the general level. Thanks to that, Mrs. Tuyet’s tea stall still maintains a place in the hearts of many diners.

“The full tea market” now has only one person left holding the job. The name “no tea market” is now only in memory. But those memories are so sweet that even though the “che no” stalls have been gone for a long time, when mentioning Go Quan market, many people still fondly mention that beloved name…
