Increase targets for Vinh City and surrounding areas

On April 26, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung – Head of Secondary Education Department, Nghe An Department of Education and Training informed that the Department has just completed approving the enrollment plan for the 2024 – 2025 school year for 21 districts, cities and towns.

In particular, increasing targets for regions with a much higher number of 9th grade students than in previous years.

Specifically, Vinh city is considered the hottest area in the 10th grade enrollment period, when there are more than 6,000 9th grade students (an increase of 800 students compared to the previous school year), but in the area there are only 3 public high schools. create.

According to the newly approved plan, all 3 public high schools of Vinh City, Huynh Thuc Khang High School, Le Viet Thuat High School and Ha Huy Tap High School, will each add 3 public classes.

Thus, the enrollment target for the 2024-2025 school year for these schools is 18 classes (the previous school year was 15 classes) with 810 students.

In addition, Huynh Thuc Khang High School is allowed to enroll 5 more classes according to the advanced high-quality model, while Ha Huy Tap High School and Le Viet Thuat High School each have 2 classes according to this model.

In recent years, with the pressure of the 10th grade public high school entrance exam in Vinh city, many candidates have switched to registering for high schools in neighboring districts to increase their chances of admission. The entrance scores to these schools are usually 8-10 points lower than high schools in Vinh every year. This makes it more difficult for “district school” candidates to compete with their city counterparts.

Therefore, to harmonize student needs, the Department of Education and Training also increased the 10th grade enrollment target for schools near Vinh City.

Specifically, Nghi Loc 3 High School (Nghi Loc district) was increased by 1 class with 45 quotas. Pham Hong Thai High School (Hung Nguyen district) was increased by 1 class, and at the same time increased the number of each class to 48 students. Le Hong Phong High School (Hung Nguyen district) was also increased from 45 to 48 students/class.

Ms. Ho Thi Ha – Principal of Pham Hong Thai High School said: In previous years, each year the school had about 130 – 160 students from Vinh city register to take the exam and about 70 – 100 students enrolled. Therefore, this year the increase of 60 quotas will somewhat reduce the pressure on candidates, especially those in the school’s enrollment area in Hung Nguyen district.

Balance targets for specific regions

This school year, Hoang Mai town has more than 2,000 10th grade students (an increase of more than 200 students compared to the previous year). Meanwhile, in the district there are only 2 public schools: Hoang Mai High School and Hoang Mai 2 High School. What is special, the town was just established more than 10 years ago, and is the only locality in Nghe An that does not have Non-public high school, without Vocational Education Center – Continuing Education. Recently, a vocational secondary school in Vinh city opened a second campus for enrollment and training in Hoang Mai town. Therefore, if 9th grade students are not admitted to public 10th grade, they must look for vocational training opportunities or continuing education in other localities.

In previous years, the total quota for two public schools in the area was only nearly 1,100 students. This year, to increase opportunities and reduce pressure on the 10th grade entrance exam, Hoang Mai High School and Hoang Mai 2 High School each increased their quota by 2 classes. At the same time, increase the size of each class to 48 students. The total target of increasing admission to public 10th grade in Hoang Mai town is 260 students.

Besides, the target for each class also increased from 45 to 48 students. Thus, the number of students entering public schools in the district is 260 students.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Bai – Vice Principal of Hoang Mai 2 High School, the admission rate for grade 10 public high schools in the town in general is just over 50% every year. However, students in many communes such as Quynh Xuan, Quynh Lien, Quynh Trang… often register to take the exam to schools in Quynh Luu district because of the close distance. Besides, secondary schools also do a good job of streamlining. Therefore, in reality, the number of successful candidates out of the total number of candidates taking the exam is higher.

“Last school year, our school’s admission rate was 86%. This year, both increasing the quota and increasing the class will create more advantages and opportunities for candidates,” said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Bai.

Leaders of Nghe An Department of Education and Training also said that after passing and approving the enrollment plan for high schools, the Department will continue to submit it to the Department of Home Affairs for consideration. Based on the actual size of the teaching staff and physical facilities of schools and localities, appropriate adjustments and balances will be made. The final plan will be approved by the Provincial People’s Committee. However, immediately after the Department of Education and Training completes the approval of the admission plan, public high schools can announce admission quotas for candidates and parents to know and consider registering to submit exam applications.

According to the plan in early May, 9th grade Nghe An students will begin registering for admission to 10th grade high school online.
