On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory on May 7 (1954 – 2024), on April 26, the Provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Giang province organized a meeting to pay tribute to Dien Bien soldiers and soldiers. Youth Volunteers (TNXP) and frontline civilians (DCHT) directly participated in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign.

In the early morning, 100 soldiers of Dien Bien, TNXP, DCHT – those who directly contributed to the “illustrious victory on five continents, shaking the earth” 70 years ago were present at the Provincial Conference Center. Emotion and pride are the special feelings of teammates meeting each other again and reliving the difficult and heroic years.

At the meeting, delegates reviewed the tradition, meaning, stature, and historical value of the Dien Bien Phu victory, while honoring and expressing deep gratitude to the people of their homeland. Bac Giang directly participated in the campaign, contributing to the famous Dien Bien Phu Victory.

During the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, Bac Giang province mobilized tens of thousands of officers, soldiers, and more than 3 thousand volunteer volunteers to participate in building roads to serve the front line, removing mines, guiding, and protecting transport cars. line and pull the artillery safely onto the battlefield. The province also mobilized tens of thousands of people and thousands of vehicles such as bicycles, buffalo carts, and pack horses day and night to transport tens of thousands of tons of weapons, food, and foodstuffs for the campaign.

At the Dien Bien Phu battlefield, many officers and soldiers from Bac Giang directly participated in the fight with the spirit of cunning and courage and achieved many excellent achievements. Typical heroes of the People’s Armed Forces: Nguyen Van Ty, Ninh Son ward, Chu Van Mui, Thuong Lan commune (Viet Yen town); Tran Dinh Hung and Luu Viet Thoang both live in Canh Thuy commune (Yen Dung).

In the rear, the militia and self-defense forces, local army units and people of all ethnic groups in the province bravely fought against the enemy’s bombardments. Tens of thousands of people from villages in the province enthusiastically volunteered to participate in civil work, labor and production, contributing to providing human and material resources for the front lines.

Within the framework of the meeting, delegates met and talked with a number of historical witnesses who directly participated in the Dien Bien Phu Campaign and heard emotional stories during 56 days and nights of “cutting mountains, sleeping in underground tunnels”. , rain drenched with rice, blood mixed with mud, the courage did not falter, the will did not wear out” together with the army and people of the whole country to create the Dien Bien Phu Victory.

The soldiers of the past are now old but still strong, agile, and alert. With emotion, Mr. Nguyen Quang Minh (born 1932), Phuc Be village, Song Mai commune (Bac Giang city) – who directly participated in digging trenches during the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, said that he and his teammates faced with countless dangers as the enemy continuously rained down firepower. Undeterred, the engineering force still persevered and dug nearly 200 km of horizontal and vertical trenches.

The trench system has contributed to limiting casualties for our soldiers, helping attacks easily approach and destroy high points of enemy firepower. Referring to sacrifice and loss, Mr. Minh choked up: “Many of my comrades were injured and died during the fight. Turning pain into action, we are even more determined.”

At the meeting, the soldiers of Dien Bien, TNXP, and DCHT all became emotional when recalling battlefield memories. For them, this reunion is not only about meeting those who have fought on the same front line, dedicating their youth to winning independence for the Fatherland and freedom for the people, but also as an opportunity to cultivate more traditions for the people. younger generation.
