On April 26, Thuan Chau district (Son La province) held the inauguration ceremony of the martyrs’ temple at the Pha Din Pass Historical-Cultural Area.

70 years ago, during the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, along with the Co Noi junction, Pha Din pass was one of the traffic key points that was fiercely attacked by the French colonialists. The French colonialists believed that by cutting off this vital route, our army would face many difficulties without receiving adequate support from the rear.

However, with determination and brave spirit, the soldiers, civil servants, youth volunteer forces and people of the Northwest ethnic groups heroically fought, held on, opened the way… to maintain communication. transparent. Thereby, greatly contributing to the victory of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, ending the resistance war against the French colonialists, opening a new period of development for the country.

With great historical values, in 2020, Pha Din Pass was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as a National Monument. In order to concretize the Party and State’s policies on preserving and promoting the value of cultural and historical heritage associated with tourism development, the Standing Committee of the Son La Provincial Party Committee has directed a general review of Pha Din Pass area (Son La district) and for the policy of implementing the planning of Pha Din Pass Historical-Cultural Relic Area (Thuan Chau district).

Based on the zoning plan, Thuan Chau district has created a master plan and started construction of a martyrs’ temple at Pha Din Pass Historical-Cultural Area (Muong É commune) from December 28, 2023. ; Total construction investment is about 26.6 billion VND (of which, phase I budget is 18.4 billion VND and phase II is about 8.2 billion VND). To date, phase I of the project has been completed.

At the ceremony, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Son La province Hoang Quoc Khanh praised the Party Committee, government and people of Thuan Chau district for proactively and actively implementing construction and completing the project on the occasion of the 70th anniversary. the year of the Dien Bien Phu victory and the 65th anniversary of the day Uncle Ho and the Central Working Group visited and talked with people of the Northwest ethnic groups in Son La (May 7, 1959 – May 7, 2024).

Along with that, the locality continues to mobilize resources to deploy the construction of the remaining project items, ensuring compliance with procedures and regulations, and early completion of phase II; Regularly organize activities to care for, repair, plant trees, grow flowers, and create environmental landscapes to make the project more spacious, green, clean, and beautiful. At the same time, the district strengthens propaganda, advocacy, and orientation for people living in the Pha Din pass area to transform an appropriate economic development model associated with promoting historical, tourism, and spiritual values. of monuments, thereby improving people’s lives.

The project was inaugurated and put into operation with the meaning of honoring and educating patriotic traditions for future generations. This will be a red address for people and tourists to express their admiration and deep gratitude to the heroic martyrs who fought and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
