This is shown through the popularity of green products in different industries. Euromonitor’s report shows that the organic food market in Vietnam will reach a value of 100 million USD by 2023, growing 20% compared to 2020. Sales of biological cleaning products increased by 15% in 2022 compared to with 2021.

The sustainable fashion industry in Vietnam also attracts more than 1 million consumers in 2023. Surveys also show that Vietnamese consumers increasingly trust products labeled “green”. According to Nielsen, 60% of Vietnamese consumers trust these products, and 55% of consumers are willing to change their consumption habits to protect the environment.

Facing that trend, many businesses have transformed their business models and considered green consumption to become an inevitable trend of sustainable development. Within the framework of the Vietnam Consumer Trust program, Vietnam Economic Magazine/VnEconomy would like to introduce 5 consumer goods businesses that represent this trend.

HERB N’ SPICE

Herb n’ Spice is a Vietnamese vegan cosmetics brand founded in 2016. Herb n’ Spice was born from the inspiration of cherishing the quintessence of the country’s nature. The name Herb n’ Spice is a balance between Yin-Yang (harmony of yin and yang) with a strong oriental medicine essence.

The products use carefully selected ingredients originating from nature such as Da Lat mountain pine oil, Ninh Thuan grassland goat milk, U Minh forest honey, Cau Dat green tea,… Products are produced locally from raw materials, reducing CO2 emissions and being environmentally friendly. Currently this brand has 3 main product lines: Handmade soap, Handmade dried perfume, Handmade wool bath accessories.

SAIGON LINE

Saigon Line is a brand that produces recycled handbags from old or scrap tarpaulins. The staff here contacted and found tarpaulin installation shops in Saigon to collect old tarpaulins, then brought them back to clean them with environmentally safe materials. Next, the sewing step of the product will be done meticulously by hand to minimize tarpaulin scraps, and finally the finished product will be delivered to the user in recycled packaging.

In October 2022, the Pizza 4P’s brand cooperated with Saigon Line to design menus, receipt covers and shopping baskets made of recycled canvas for the new store. Both brands used old canvases from a cafe in Thu Duc to print, sew and design products. The menus are also printed with a message in Vietnamese and English: “This blue fabric cover used to be the tarpaulin roof for the cafe in Thu Duc.”

COCOON COSMETICS

Cocoon has appeared on the market with its positioning as a vegan cosmetics brand. Since then, the brand’s marketing activities have always shown love for nature, as well as carried out the mission of protecting the environment. One of Cocoon’s outstanding activities is “Recovering old batteries – Protecting the green Earth”. For every 10 old batteries recovered, users will receive one Cocoon coconut oil lip balm product.

During nearly 10 years of development, TimTay has always persistently pursued a sustainable and environmentally friendly lifestyle by using natural materials such as pure silk, cotton, and flax. … to contribute to minimizing negative impacts on the environment and bringing comfort to the wearer. During the production process, excess materials and excess fabric are always kept for reuse and recycling into other products. Thanks to that, TimTay is still one of the sustainable fashion brands in Vietnam that is loved and trusted by many customers.

CRAZY LIPS FASHION

With a distinct vision and design language, along with determination and the “guts” to dare to change tastes, Moi Dien has led the sustainable fashion game in the Vietnamese market with unique designs. When “sustainable fashion” was still a primitive concept for the majority of consumers, local brands needed pioneers worth learning and applauding like Moi Dien.

Diffusing sustainable diversity is one of Moi Dien’s core values, so it’s no wonder that the “KAO” Craft Collection is formed from factory scraps and leftover 100% cotton fabric. Manual cleaning and regeneration processing techniques are applied to minimize carbon emissions from the production process, while promoting “Zero Waste” sustainable processing habits for the Vietnamese fashion market.

Pursuing a sustainable fashion model, Moi Dien fashion brand has been diligently working with Trashion (Trash – waste and Fashion – fashion) for many years. With Trashion, fashion makers are required to understand a lot of materials. At the same time, this brand must go through sophisticated stages from screening, processing to design so that “garbage” will not create more “garbage”. Besides “garbage”, Moi Dien also thinks of other friendly materials to convey a strong message to more people.

The trend of consuming green products in Vietnam not only benefits the environment but also opens up many opportunities for businesses to participate in this market.
