The exhibition “Road to Dien Bien” introduces 70 works of painting, graphics, sculpture, sketches, posters, and compositions created in the period 1949 – 2009 by 34 authors, selected in the Bao Bao’s collection. Vietnam Fine Arts Museum.

Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, Dr. Nguyen Anh Minh – Director of the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts said that during the fierce days of the Dien Bien Phu campaign, many artists and painters went directly to war and peace. with the troops heading towards Dien Bien. Using rich visual language, they realistically and vividly portray the life and fighting of our army and people in the famous Dien Bien Phu campaign on five continents, shaking the earth.

The topic of the Dien Bien Phu victory – a glorious page of history is still an inspiration and a source of creativity for many generations of artists who have successfully expressed fine art works such as the image of an artillery soldier in the work Scissors. Dien Bien artillery of Tran Dinh Tho; Dien Bien that year by Cao Trong Thiem; Road to Dien Bien by Tran Khanh Chuong… or the lives and activities of soldiers and people in the resistance area and the rear through the works of artists Luu Van Sin, Nguyen Sang… In particular, the image of President Ho Chi Minh in the throne Father of the nation; The image of the people’s General – Vo Nguyen Giap, is also skillfully portrayed, expressing the deep feelings of writers and artists for the People’s Leader and talented general, through Minh Khoi’s works. , Minh Dinh…

With traditional display methods, combining the application of cinemagraph projection technology and interactive experience space, the exhibition brings viewers to relive the moments of the old Dien Bien Phu battlefield. The work of pulling artillery into the battlefield to prepare for the campaign is shown through the works To Vinh Dien inserting artillery, Pulling artillery by Duong Huong Minh, Pulling artillery from Dien Bien by Tran Dinh Tho; The support and contributions of tens of thousands of civil servants are clearly portrayed in the works Viet Bac by Dao Duc, Sending each other off to civil servants by Luu Van Sin, The whole country goes to war by Luu Danh Thanh; The close bond between the army and the people, supporting each other during wartime, was expressed by artists through the works Love of Army and People by Nguyen Sang, Road to Dien Bien by Tran Khanh Chuong…

Sculptor Luu Thanh Danh shares about his brainchild: The bicycle was known as the “king of transport” during the Dien Bien Phu campaign. These bicycles were used by citizens to transport food and medicine for the Campaign. During my field trips to Dien Bien Phu, it was the image of the Bicycle Corps on the battlefield of Dien Bien Phu that inspired me to compose this work. This is an unprecedented phenomenon in the history of the Vietnam War in particular and in the world in general. These bicycles are a symbol of the unshakable spirit and determination of our army and people in the struggle to protect the Fatherland.

Touched when his beloved father’s works were displayed at the exhibition “Road to Dien Bien”, Mr. Duong Huong Nam, son of artist Duong Huong Minh, said, these are priceless works that my father and his colleagues created. The artist left behind for today’s generation. They witnessed, were present and truthfully recorded the life and arduous fighting of our army and people during the resistance period. These works contribute to boldly portraying the nation’s heroic history.

The exhibition “Road to Dien Bien” not only shows respect and pride in the golden pages of the nation’s history, but also arouses and promotes the spirit of patriotism and the spirit of great solidarity of the entire people to be passed on to the younger generation. today, but also a deep gratitude to the generation of heroes and martyrs who participated in the resistance war in the Dien Bien Phu campaign so that we can live in independence and peace. The exhibition is also a tribute from the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum to the painters and sculptors whose creativity has brought us a heroic and emotional “Road to Dien Bien” atmosphere, Dr. Nguyen Anh Minh – Director of Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts shared.

The exhibition is open from April 26 to May 15, 2024 on the 1st floor of Building B, Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Ba Dinh, Hanoi.

Within the framework of the exhibition, an Art Talk program with the theme “Road to Dien Bien” will take place at 9:30 a.m., April 27, 2024; and “Memories of Artist and Martyr To Ngoc Van” at 9:30 a.m., May 11, 2024.
