Coach Giustozzi: Vietnamese Futsal accepts risks so it has to pay the price

According to coach Diego Giustozzi, the Vietnamese futsal team uses power-play tactics to find a goal in the last minute of the match, but this becomes a “double-edged sword” when the whole team makes mistakes and loses their ticket. Attend Futsal World Cup 2024.

“After being tied 2-2, Kyrgyzstan proactively played power-play first. At this time, the Vietnamese futsal team can only proactively defend. But I think, when the students use power-play, they can arrange the best coordination situation to score a goal. This means we have accepted the risk. So when we make mistakes, the whole team has to pay the price,” coach Giustozzi shared at the press conference after the Vietnam futsal team’s 2-3 loss to Kyrgyzstan in the play-off round to compete for tickets to the 2024 Futsal World Cup.

The turning point in the match came in the 39th minute, when coach Giustozzi let the Vietnamese futsal players use the power-play strategy, with captain Pham Duc Hoa wearing a goalkeeper shirt. This is a sensitive time, when the match score is 1-1 and the team with a goal will almost certainly win. In an attack arrangement, Nguyen Anh Duy incorrectly cushioned the ball at the post and became the assist for Askarbekov to score into the vacant Vietnamese futsal team’s goal, sealing a 3-2 victory for the team. Kyrgyzstan.

Coach Giustozzi continued: “In Futsal it is very normal and I regret not being able to win.” This failure caused Giustozzi and his team to officially miss the big world futsal festival in Uzbekistan next September.

Coach Giustozzi admitted that the Vietnamese futsal players spent the first half playing better than their opponents, but could not find an equalizing goal before entering the dressing room. In the second half, both sides played offensively, but coach Giustozzi’s students had difficulty finding a goal to reach the opponent’s goal. The Argentine coach continued to repeat the mistake of using the power-play strategy, allowing the opponent to score the goal to set the score 3-2.

According to Coach Giustozzi, through the 2024 Asian Futsal Championship, it will be seen that the level of expertise between the teams in Asian Futsal has been shortened, even equal.

“I want to say that the whole team tried their best. This is also the best force I have at the moment. I came to Vietnam to work and had a 2-year preparation process for the Vietnamese futsal team to change and have the current performance. However, other teams only need 2-3 months of concentration to reach our level. That is a very special thing and Vietnam Futsal must change the way of thinking and investing in this subject. That is the first thing for the Vietnamese futsal team to improve their performance for the upcoming continental tournament,” coach Giustozzi emphasized.

Closing the press conference, coach Giustozzi thanked the country’s fans for their companionship and following.
