Vietnam Maritime Administration works with the province on seaport development

(CTDT) – On the afternoon of April 26, the Vietnam Maritime Administration had a working session with Thua Thien Hue province on infrastructure management, transportation, planning and investment in seaport development. Participating in the working session on the part of the Vietnam Maritime Administration was Chief Le Do Muoi. On the leadership side of Thua Thien Hue province was Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Hoang Hai Minh.

At the meeting, Thua Thien Hue province reported the situation, planning and investment orientation for the province’s seaport development. Accordingly, for Phong Dien Wharf Area, according to report No. 3363/TTr-BGTVT dated March 29, 2024, Phong Dien Wharf Area by 2030 will have a development scale from 08 wharves to 12 wharves with a total length of 1,250 m to 2,620 m, throughput capacity from 6.0 million tons to 11.0 million tons. For Thuan An wharf area, according to report No. 3363/TTr-BGTVT dated March 29, 2024, by 2030, the existing scale will remain the same with 02 wharves and a total length of 185 m, throughput capacity of about 1. 0 million tons. Channel length is 5.3km. Currently the current depth is -3.5m and the design depth is -4.5m. For Chan May Port Area, regarding the container port, according to report No. 3363/TTr-BGTVT dated March 29, 2024, the development scale is from 08 to 10 wharves with a total length from 2,431m to 3,231m, capacity throughput capacity from 16.1 million tons to 23.0 million tons and from 324,100 passengers to 345,000 passengers.

The province requests that the Vietnam Maritime Administration soon submit to the Ministry for approval the detailed planning of land and water areas of Thua Thien Hue seaport for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 to have a basis for implementing the next steps; Direct and urge units to dredge and maintain the Thuan An navigation channel according to the approved schedule; Research dredging to expand and deepen the channel from the edge of the navigation channel to the landing dock for fishing boats so that when there are storms or tropical depressions, light cargo ships can take shelter from the storm at the combined Thuan An fishing port. anchorage area to shelter from storms. The province also proposed that the Vietnam Maritime Administration report to the Ministry of Transport to supplement the dredging and maintenance plan for the Chan May wharf area in 2024, reaching a depth of – 12.0m; Investing in upgrading shipping channels and turning basins in Chan May area to ensure safety for ships up to 70,000 DWT to reduce load entering and exiting the port in the period 2025-2026.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Hoang Hai Minh said that in recent times, Thua Thien Hue province has focused on investing and building offshore structures; In particular, focusing on investment projects in port infrastructure, industrial park infrastructure, non-tariff zones… to serve production and business development. The province has set out development directions and solutions for marine economic development and is specified in Decision No. 1745/QD-TTg dated December 30, 2023 of the Prime Minister on approving Thua Thien Provincial Planning. Hue period 2021 – 2030, vision to 2050.

Director of the Vietnam Maritime Administration Le Do Muoi highly appreciated the province’s infrastructure management, transportation, planning and investment in seaport development, noting that the province has had orientations to develop coastal areas. The wharf belongs to Thua Thien Hue seaport in accordance with the socio-economic development orientation, exploiting existing potentials and advantages. The Vietnam Maritime Administration accepts the province’s recommendations and will soon deploy solutions to improve the capacity to effectively operate ports, ensure maritime safety and security, and meet effective operations. Ship channels, turning basins, operational and business efficiency of ship owners and port enterprises.
