After two reporters working at a fire in Thanh Tri district, Hanoi city were unprovoked and injured by two subjects on the evening of April 23, the Vietnam Journalists Association sent an official dispatch requesting Hanoi authorities participate in the investigation and take strict action to protect members.

On the evening of April 26, the Vietnam Journalists Association sent an official dispatch to the Hanoi People’s Committee and Hanoi Police requesting to investigate and strictly handle the subject who assaulted the reporter.

The official dispatch signed by the Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association said that on April 23, reporter MHM (working at VnExpress Electronic Newspaper) is currently a member of the journalists’ association and NVC reporter (working at VnExpress Electronic Newspaper). VTV Times (Vietnam Television) while working at the scene to provide information and images of the fire in Viet Yen village, Ngu Hiep commune, Thanh Tri district, Hanoi city, was suddenly attacked by 3 subjects. chase and fight.

Notably, the subjects also kicked, punched, kicked, snatched and threw the phone, causing injuries to the reporter’s head, temple, and wrist, causing bleeding.

“The thuggish behavior of the target group has caused confusion and frustration among the public opinion of members and journalists,” the dispatch emphasized.

Therefore, to protect the legal right to practice, honor and dignity of journalists, the Vietnam Journalists Association requests the authorities to investigate, clarify and strictly handle those who assault journalists. .

Previously, in the early morning of April 24, Thanh Tri District Police received reports from two reporters about being obstructed and assaulted by many subjects while working at a fire.

Accordingly, while using the phone to record the fire for about 30 seconds, suddenly both (in different positions) were attacked from behind.

Immediately after learning of the incident, Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh issued a document on examining and handling press information reporting on the assault of working journalists at the above fire.

The document assigns the People’s Committee of Thanh Tri district to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to check and clarify the reported information; Strictly handle violations (if any); Respond to the press according to regulations and report to the Hanoi People’s Committee before April 27.
